  2. Thanks patticats. That sounds like an excellent idea. I used to eschew the idea of keeping a "journal" as being a bit too "Oprah" for my tastes, but there is power in the written form, a power to convey and see your thoughts and feelings conveyed on paper by your own hand that adds healing I think in having them acknowledged in a more readily seen and concrete fashion through ink on paper. It also, I think, gives you a sense of ownership and power over them, in coming to more fully understand them and their more nuanced influences on our life, which we often do not reflect upon or quite realize. Just having articulated my feelings on this post, I feel, did much of giving me a bit of greater clarity and insight of what the toxic elements of this past are and fully acknowleding them and knowing how I want to deal with them instead of being ignornat of their influence and at their mercy in my life. Falling down happens. I can forgive a person an infinite number of times for their "failures." It's when they don't wish to acknowledge it, learn from it, and better themselves from it (and one can, I fully believe this), where I have trouble (and I especially place this criticism on myself) that is less forgivable. You sound like you've come a long way from whatever past troubles you are now free. Rock on! In my prayers too...

  7. Willa, I like your post but I am finding myself in disagreement on the forth sentence. Am I missing something, I thought the NT laid down some rules for us to follow. The Big Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 Difference Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18 Is The Old Testament Was First And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:29-30 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31

  10. Wrong. Jesus' forgiveness is perfect. Being saved means we have a future relationship with God exactly as Floatingaxe said. It is what Christ said was the whole purpose of His coming here was. You are correct. To say that Jesus death only covers "past sins" makes no sense and the Bible doesn't say that. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the death penalty for "SIN" Man stands before God condemned, not on the basis of whats he has done, but on the basis of his inherent sinful condition, that condition in Romans is known as sin and is directly connected to the death of Jesus on the cross. There were two things that happened on the cross. Jesus blood was shed for the remission of sins AND He died to deliver us once and for all from the bondage of sin, our sinful nature. The blood of Jesus forgives us for what we have done. The death of Jesus delivers us from what we are. The salvation of a believer is connected in the death of Jesus, from about Rom. 5:12 to the end of Romans 8. Paul deals with how a believer is delivered from the bondage of sin. That is why we are eternally secure. Sin carries a death penalty and the death of Jesus paid that death penalty once and for all. It forever satisfied God's justice against sin. But it is up to man to appropriate that by grace through faith. Some of what you said is true, and some is not. Jesus did die to pay the price for any sin we could ever commit, but not everyone benefits from that sin atonement. Some don't benefit because they never accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Some only experience short term benefits because they start out with the Lord and backslide and die in that condition. Some start out saved, backslide like the prodigal son who was lost and dead, and then they return to the Father and are now found and saved again. The same blood atonement saved that person both times. If you were saved yesterday and haven't been saved today, you better get to praying. As a matter of fact, if you haven't been saved in the last 5 minutes, you had better be accepting Jesus. It is the only way we can get to Heaven under your explanation.

  12. No, what I said was the Jesus paid the death penalty for "sin" (singular). Actually there is not one example of that in the Bible. That is not how it works. You are misapplying the concept of "lost" and "found" in the prodigal son. My example is the prodigal son, and I applied it perfectly. He was originally a son, went into sin and was lost and dead, and returned and was found and saved. Case closed. The prodigal son was always the son of the Father. He walked away from his family, but never lost his sonship. That parable teaches eternal security.

  15. As I have said before, if you could lose your salvation, none of us would be saved. We would have to continuously ask to be saved because as soon as we got saved and went on about our lives, we sin again and there goes our salvation. Christ's salvation is perfect. I did nothing to earn it and there is nothing I can do to lose it.

  16. I seek to make the most of my time, talent and resources in this life. There is nothing wrong with being rich or enjoying the fruit of ones labors. I refuse to make temporal success the center of my attention and goal setting. I need 90% of my time to focus upon and work toward helping others around me come to know and love God while increasing my conscious contact with God myself. Let us focus on building God's house and leave ours up to him to build.

  17. Only you can answer that question. There is nothing wrong in being promoted for good work. There is nothing wrong with being paid well. So the question comes down to why you want this so badly. If it is to support your family, I see nothing wrong in that either. If it is to just have more money for "stuff", I would suggest to check your intentions of your heart. The answer is there, if you are willing to accept it, either way it goes.

  19. While I do understand the meaning as others are using it, I always understood this to mean for ordination or consecration for service. Paul warns in other places not to promote men to leadership when they are brand new Christians so they will not be tempted by pride. But most new Christians are not ready to face the responsibility of leadership in a church and all the harassment and complaining a leader must endure. Verse 17 right before this verse had referred to the work of elders. 1 Tim, 3 gives qualifications for leadership, showing that they should be watched and tried to see if they meet the qualifications. Other places it mentions the gifts that God bestowed upon Timothy through the laying on of hands. God often equips with spiritual gifts when He consecrates people for service.` Perhaps participating in another man's sins would be done by ordaining a person they knew to be sinful and who did not meet the standards, and thereby seemingly condoning sin.

  20. Because Holy Spirit insight holds the key to understanding text not easily understood __ and some presumed understood by simplicity of certain sentence structure.. It is a dead translation to those who make the attempt without such insight.
