  1. The bible always speaks of us being reconciled to God. Restoring the lost relationship between us and him. He wants you to come to him and he wants you to know him on a personal level. But the way to knowing him and the way to heaven is through believing what he has said about his son (Jesus). That when he came down from heaven, he died in your place, paying your penalty and he rose from the dead and went back up to heaven. Jesus' purpose and mission was to die on the cross, to wash away your sins. Prayer is not a specially worded formula. It is simply talking to God from your heart in the same way you would talk to me if I were standing next to you. Romans 10 : 9 - 10 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.… We get right with God when we confess our sins to him and believe that Jesus will cleanse of all unrighteousness. Faith and trusting Jesus as Lord and savior is what makes us Christians. We then go on to learn more and more about him and what he wants for us, by reading his word (bible) daily and through daily prayer. A Church is a place where we gather with other Christians for fellowship with one another, and learning more about God's word and who he is. I recommend that you read the Book of John in the bible to help you understand it all, and then read it again a second time. Each time you read it earnestly, you will see and grasp more and more of what God is saying to you. After reading John, read the book of acts. If you are not sure of what you have prayed to be saved, I have provided a sample for you to use . God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
  2. The following is a link to a web site that has nothing but hymns. There is no ads, just the lyrics to many of our favorite old hymns. The web site does not put up any copyrighted material. If you do not see your favorite hymn, it probably has a copyright still in effect. http://www.hymntime.com/tch/index.htm
  3. Note that Jesus did not tell Zacchaeus to give up any of his wealth. Zacchaeus volunteered half of what he had. The problem with wealth is when a person makes it the “only” goal in life. Being poor does not guarantee one will be moral in thoughts and actions. Joseph, called Barnabas, Dorcas, Cornelius, Sergius Paulus, and Lydia are just a few names in the new testament that had wealth. The thing is, these people shared with others and didn't hoard their wealth. Luke 19 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. Matthew 6 :24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
  4. I just happened to be reading Titus when your post reminded me of a verse in the first chapter, which may be of something for paws to look at. Titus 1 :13 - 14 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths
  5. There will always be rude people who are ill informed. Just consider the source and move on. If any one says anything to you just tell them you have other things more important to do than worry about his/her opinion about your weight.
  6. A person should give because he or she wants to, not because they will get a blessing or they "have" too.
  7. I couldn't stand that show. . . not only was the scripts bad.... but the acting was cheesy
  8. Christianity isn't a religion but a real relationship with our Lord and savior. It is about what God has done for us, and continues to do for us through faith, trust and hope in him. We are powerless to save ourselves from sin's grasp. Religion however relies on man's strength and power instead of relying on God to do for us.
  9. there's a lot of us in chat all the time that enjoy bible trivia....im one of them ome. and uh... your link says we don't have permission to view that page.
  10. Hopefully this idea will get shut down.
  11. If according to you.... Jesus is the holy spirit then whom is Jesus speaking of in these passages? I say that he is speaking of the holy spirit. John 15 : 26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me. John 16 :7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
  12. Matthew 15 :17 - 20 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; Mark 7 :15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” Mark 7 : 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
  13. I am lost on the point of having to pay 90 bucks more if one declines the challenge. Or did I read that wrong?
  14. Along with motivational speaking style, it is said that his style also includes “prosperity gospel” and “words of faith” doctrines. Those doctrines have been called heresy. How many people watch his sermons or attend his church is not proof that how he teaches is correct or in error. He has made several statements in interviews that have caused folks to be wary of what he preaches.
  15. I agree with nc, all the things you have mentioned sound like the making of a cult. What items you have listed are not biblical. I also suggest that you leave this church and not look back, and do NOT let them make you feel guilty for leaving. You have every right to leave.
  16. Marriage is not just about romance and little ones. It is constantly being shaped and molded by each days events and the ability of both to cope and adapt to each new challenge for the rest of our lives. When one gets married, they aren't just marrying the good qualities about the other, they are also marrying their quirks too which many can attest that they wish the other did not come with. Those quirks can really grate on us at times, and complaining is a way to deal with the frustrations but also a way to finding solace when we just can't quite get there. No relationship is free from complaints. Whether it is between family or between friends. Everybody has something that they do or say that gets on others nerves.
  17. I don't know, I just did a search on google and it showed the thread. I don't get very far with worthy's search function.
  18. Realize that the apostle Paul not only experienced vulnerability but spoke about it in 2 Corinthians 12 :9-10 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. Satan loves for us to feel vulnerable and vindictive for it causes division so that as Christians we are unable to have meaningful fellowship with God and one another or share the gospel with unbelievers. Anger, bitterness and resentment gives birth to unforgiveness. Satan is always trying to drive a wedge between us and God. Through vindictiveness, and unforgiveness, we unwittingly becomes tools in satan's hands. Unforgiveness prevents us from fulfilling the command to love one another just as the Lord loves us. None of us deserves God's mercy, but we need to remember that the Lord has forgiven us because of who we are, not because of what we have done. Do good to those who hurt you or insult you that they may become ashamed of themselves. Eventually they will reap what they sow. 1 Peter 3 : 9 (NIV) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. Romans 12:19-20 (NIV) Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. We do NOT ever have the right to avenge ourselves. That right belongs to the Lord. When you relinquish the right to get even, and stop nursing the grudge, you will again feel that closeness of Jesus and your wounds will heal. Forgiveness is more for your benefit, not for theirs.
  19. Hahaha I cheated. . . was just reading the banking thread prior to viewing this one.
  20. are you looking for this thread coheir? its in the general category
  21. Legit sources have also fallen prey to those who create and spread urban legends or conspiracy stories. There have also been instances when legit sources themselves will knowingly create false stories, simply to improve viewer ratings. In the first post, there is scripture used in the article as proof that what the author of the article said was true. Compare that to when satan was tempting Jesus, he used scripture to his own advantage. People want all kinds of physical proofs through science of God's existence because in that way it is by their standards and reasoning and puts them in charge of deciding if God is real or not, instead of what God has said about himself. The author of this article has used his/her own standard of reasoning instead of what the bible says about how we know God is present. This scripture written on dna is nonsense and foolishness, because the bible says we come to see and know God by faith. God will not except any other way to him. No matter how brilliant the thought. 1 Corinthians 2 : 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
  22. this page has a short explanation of who and why. http://www.gotquestions.org/Christian-crusades.html
  23. The jews in bible times thought that they were automatically granted into the kingdom because they were born as a jew and in their own eyes thought of themselves as possessing righteousness through their nationality. The man without the proper robe, represents persons who have appointed themselves righteous by their own standards
