  1. I think it does affect especially the structures that are not built to withstand earthquakes. I've heard some buildings here like the Cathedral in downtown are built to withstand an 8 quake. Other newer buildings are built on rollers so they can sway easier. Our underground water pipes are over 100 years old. They have been breaking alot over the past 12 months or so. After the quake on July 4th, a water main broke in the Miracle Mile area. After the 7.1 quake on July 5, another portion of that water pipe broke. In my own apartment building, when the rugs were gone due to a big fire in my wing, I saw many cracks on the cement hall floors. Likewise when linoleum was put into my dining area, many long cracks on the cement under the old rug.
  2. Also, to reciprocate to the young man for his kindness to me, I gave him a large oil painting I had done. Also, gave him some vintage clowns and vintage Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He was very happy and surprised.
  3. Was talking in the Gomorrah topic about the evils nowadays (June was gay pride month here, their parade was televised, etc.) Mentioned I hope we wouldn't have a major earthquake due to that....see second post. https://www.worthychristianforums.com/topic/238054-gomorah-demons-are-here-and-about/?page=2
  4. I would use the WiFi at cafes or the library, rather than an unnecessary bill. My friend started to let me use her WiFi. I would sit on the patio to get the signal. A young neighbor man would walk his dog and always talk to me each night. He said let's see if his WiFi would reach my apartment and then I could use his while indoors! It did reach so for at least a year and a half, I was able to use his WiFi. So kind of him! Then recently he gave his WiFi up as he had a hot spot on his phone. Then my other neighbors, girls from Kenya, let me use their WiFi (I offered them some money, they said no). Finally after a couple of weeks, the young neighbor man got his WiFi back just for me to use!! He said he had gotten two new clients. I guess my WiFi cup is running over!
  5. Neighbor, you must know those alligators are fast! Not for the long run, but great sprinters! Funny though that the ranger didn't say anything to you while you were too near to the big guy!
  6. Our brother JustPassingThru wrote the following in a different topic. It's very interesting so thought I'd post it where more can read it. Written by JustPassingThru... Got any grape fields in Texas? Ever read Steinbeck's book, …Grapes of Wrath? It was required reading in High School, …and during summer vacations I worked in those very grape fields, in Lamont, Weedpatch and Arvin that he wrote about. So…, let’s take a look at that illustration Jesus was talking about, …one note (for those that are not familiar with the language of the King James), the suffix eth in the KJV means continually. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. John 15:2a Every branch in me that does not continually bear fruit He, (Father, Husbandman, farmer) continually takes away. The word taketh is airō and means to raise up, to elevate, to lift up, …the word away is not in the original text, it was added to supposedly give clarity. Because there are tens of thousands of acres of grapes, in the early spring the migrant worker went into the fields and raised up the branches that had fallen into the dirt and wove them back on to the overhead wires …and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. John 15:2b Every branch that continually bears fruit He purgeth it, …the word purgeth is actually kathairō and in the Greek it means to: to prune trees and vines from useless shoots. As soon as summer vacation had started we were in the fields pruning the runners (new young branches that cling to the wires and will not produce any fruit the first year and if they should the berries would be tiny and sour) and cutting off all of the grapes below the fifth shoulder and any stunted grapes, leaving only eight of the largest bunches of grapes on each side of the trunk. Why? So that there would be larger and more plentiful fruit. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. These are the 16 bunches of grapes left on each trunk, the grapes are NOT struggling to grow bigger, they’re just hangin’ in there, it’s the trunk (vine) that supplies all of the nutrients and water for the grapes to grow. So is the lesson for us, …it’s the Holy Spirit that provides everything we need while we are growing, being conformed into the image of Jesus Christ and during this growing process Father is continually lifting us up when we fall, pruning away at our iniquity, our old carnal nature, and the result is Godly fruit produced in our lives. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:6 Remember those new young runner branches that we cut off, after pruning the field was finished the migrant workers moved on to another field and we teenagers went back through the rows and gathered them up and took them to the burn pit, …remember, they were the branches that would never produce fruit. Jesus explained this for us in this illustration: Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matt 7:21-23 They were never a part of the True vine, they did many carnal, fleshly, religious works, in the name of the Lord, but never produced any Godly fruit, …never any evidence that Father could see they were being conformed into the image of His Son. One last thing, …please notice, Jesus didn’t say, “I once knew you, but now I don’t,” …no, He said, “I never knew you!” Two thousand years later and farmers are still growing grapes like in the times of Jesus. Grapes 101 Lord bless
  7. I heard Corrie Ten Boom speak at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church one time. The video posted here was interesting, thanks Omegaman.
  8. Yes, it was a 7.1 quake near Ridgecrest. It struck about 8:20pm last night. It was stronger and lasted longer than the previous quake. Since we felt it so much, we knew Ridgecrest was really being hit badly. Our hanging plants were swaying, aquarium water sloshing some, mom's chair shaking. I was standing in the kitchen by a counter, could feel it but felt secure by the counter. We are about 150 miles from Ridgecrest. The only saving grace for us was that these two big quakes were the rolling, swaying type once arriving in L.A. The thrust type quakes are more violent, such as the one I experienced in 1994. That was terrifying. Ayin, it is a law here that apartments have a Carbon Monoxide detector. But this management company is shady. They said they would refuse our rent check if we didn't pay them $135 for a plumbing bill. We paid it as we thought they would try to evict us...then found out the other tenants didn't pay but called the city. The city inspector told me to call him next time. Once this management company has your money, they won't give it back. I tried to get reimbursed for $120 when my lock malfunctioned....they ignored me. They have done more awful stuff to tenants here and in thousands of buildings they manage, including wrongly ruining someone's credit.
  9. I think even if the pilot lights aren't lit, that a broken gas line would still eventually explode. Our current apartment management company took over almost four years ago. They are horrible so they could care less about anything. Our carbon monoxide detector was making noise early December 2018. They took it out saying it was broken. We are still waiting for it to be replaced. Have already reminded them more than once. Heard the supervisor keeps them in her office and needs to bring it over here. Manager here is unfriendly and you never see him.....they fired our nice Christian manager of many years when they took over. But it worked out better for him. We had wildfires in California last fire season or so....people were actually escaping through those gigantic flames! Some had a miracle, it was that bad. One town, Paradise, was totally destroyed. Even wildlife was seen fleeing. I posted a couple of videos here about the horses and the rabbits fleeing.
  10. They are kind of fascinating, along with sharks. I have watched some true stories about Alligators, Crocs, and sharks....wrote some movie reviews on them and where to watch them for free. Crocodile attack Australia: https://www.worthychristianforums.com/topic/228624-black-water-true-story/ Another true story: https://www.worthychristianforums.com/topic/238078-the-reef-true-story/
  11. Talking about fires....the problem with a bigger earthquake is that they break the gas lines! Unless God gives one a miracle on the spot. I live in a 74 unit building....each apartment has a gas wall heater. Some of us have the pilot light on but many don't....but once there is a gas leak, not good. That's what happened to the home that burned yesterday in the quake. Another thing....our water pipes under the streets in L.A. are over 100 years old! The past year the city has had several pipes burst....just out of the blue. In some cases, gushers of water....in other cases, massive amounts of water seeping up from the street. So a bigger earthquake, you can imagine....
  12. So true. Back then, most people would at least have a conscience. For example, if they stole something, they knew it was wrong. Now it's like they have no conscience. Recently on our news, children have been videotaped stealing for the adults accompanying them. These were separate incidents. It's bad enough when adults steal, let alone them teaching a child to steal for them.
  13. Now they are recommending we drop to the floor and get under a table! I tell my mother, even if we manage to drop and crawl under a table....how on Earth are we ever going to get back up?!
  14. As a senior citizen and also having an 89 year old mother, currently it's kind of hard to leave. We hate the high rents but other than that everything is convenient for me to do the grocery shopping and errands. Also, my mom loves her main doctor, although I know we could find another one. They keep building new apartment buildings (expensive ones) so if they ever tear this one down, we will be forced to move out of State.
  15. I heard for every point higher on the Richter scale, that the intensity of the quake is 100 times more!
  16. Keep things simple....just believe God's promises to you, have faith in Him as your Savior. That He took your sins and gave/gives you His righteousness. I agree with Michael....you should seek out some good Christian fellowship. Visit a few churches to find one where you can be fed with good sermons and meet some other Christians.
  17. Oh my, a 7.1....that is a really bad one!! Was that in Alaska? I have a friend who went through the big one in Alaska and she said some people on her street couldn't get out of their homes. Their homes had sunk totally into the ground! The 6.6 we had in 1994 caused a freeway overpass to collapse. Also an apartment building like we live in collapsed like a pancake on top of other floors. That was the epicenter. In our area, plate glass windows broke and I found rock-like pieces from a historic building on the ground. After that quake we were saying, "We are going to leave California!" But somehow, we never did. The big ones are very scary. The small ones don't bother us. The only thing is that you don't know if it will keep getting bigger when it strikes.
  18. July 4th....At 10:33 this morning, an earthquake happened. Slight swaying at first, then started to grow in intensity. I kept wondering if it was going to get bigger as we are always told to expect a large earthquake. We are 100 years late in getting a big one. Thanking the Lord Jesus, that the one today didn't last very long for us in Los Angeles. It was, however, a large quake...6.4 at the epicenter of Ridgecrest, CA. Alot of damage there, including a house destroyed by fire, stuff thrown around onto floors in stores, apartments and homes.. Ceiling tiles fell down in their city hall. A hospital was evacuated. They have no power and it is 100 degrees there! There have been dozens of aftershocks and all of the TV stations have been covering the earthquake since it happened. I experienced the 6.6 earthquake in 1994...it was extremely scary as the epicenter was much closer to us, in the Valley area of Los Angeles.
  19. The workmanship, craftsmanship truly is amazing on that window. I particularly like windows showing Jesus the Good Shepherd with the sheep. Also, with the children is nice. Some windows show the main points of Christ's life, all in one window....those are really nice.
  20. I watched commercials and TV shows during the 1950s and 1960s. They were nothing like you described! I remember commercials for Ivory soap, Ovaltine, Campbell's soup, Brycreme, Old Spice, Pepsodent toothpaste, Tide detergent...just simple advertisements. Some TV shows were The Andy Griffith Show (life in a small town), Lassie (hero dog), Fury (hero horse), Rin Tin Tin (hero dog), Roy Rogers (Christian actor/singer), Father Knows Best, I Love Lucy....there were more but all were wholesome programs. In programs where it was about a married couple, there would only be twin beds allowed to avoid any suggestiveness. My, have times changed now! That's your opinion. I am older than you and am speaking from experience. When I was in high school, what some kids considered bad behavior was sneaking behind the school for a cigarette between classes. My, have times changed...
  21. I agree with Beau.... Kathryn Kuhlman never claimed to be a faith healer. She always gave the glory to God if anyone was healed during the services. She always said the healing/salvation of a soul through Jesus was more important than any physical healing! Although I attended a Presbyterian Church as a child, my mother and I would attend Kathryn Kuhlman's services in Pittsburgh, where she lived. The presence of the Holy Spirit was always very apparent in the services. My mother and I were touched at one service although standing in the back. Wonderful hymns would be whole heartedly sung, Miss Kuhlman would give a message directing everyone to Christ as Savior, then healings would occur. After moving to Los Angeles, we also attended some services here. But those services when I was a child still stand out to me. Kathryn Kuhlman had a very close walk with God. I know of a Jewish lady who came to Christ by listening to Kathryn Kuhlman's radio program.
  22. I believe those percentages are incorrect for the 1950s and 1960s. I saw those percentages and they were for "self-reporting" surveys. Here is a graph of church attendance through the years which seems much more accurate to me: https://religionnews.com/2014/01/27/great-decline-religion-united-states-one-graph/
  23. Any more news on that hiker in the Grand Canyon? I read something that they thought he might have drowned.
  24. And if you would have told us back then that homosexuals would be marrying, and that people would be taking hormones and having surgeries to change their sex, we would never have believed that could happen!
  25. put up with me?! But moving on, what really fascinated me about the carnival life was....
