Is there a question in this. If not, why is it in doctrinal questions?
-
I saw a video like that as well. It made me think of Revelation 20:4 when it talked about those who are beheaded for the witness of Jesus (during the tribulation). By Islam's definition, anyone who is not a follower of Islam is an infidel and most of them think everyone who is not Muslim is a Christian. It also make me think of what Paul said, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8) We are not to fear what man can do (Luke 12:4), only to fear God. God does not give us a spirit of fear.

why is polygamy allowed in the Old Testament?

Why did God allow polygamy in the Old Testament? The Bible does not specifically say why God allowed polygamy. The best anyone can do is -
Question the story if you wish, but when you do, you question the truth of what I am saying that has happened in my own family. The doctor is not the problem. It was a person who sued the doctor that was a problem. A person sued to force the doctor to NOT give out the ultrasound pictures, saying they were nude photos. The doctor loves sharing those photos.

By Jesus own words in John 16:11 Satan has already been judged. There is no chance for redemption once that happens. Matthew 25:41 says that hell was prepared for the devil and his angels. If a place of eternal judgement has already been prepared for Satan, then how can escape what has already been decided. God does not change or go back on what has been promised. He promises eternal life for everyone, but the question is where will you spend it. Satan already knows his end and he intends to take as many with him as he can.

glorywatch, that is insane!! I've never heard of that before Alycia, neither had I.

Charitow, no problem, some of the replies are so funny. The whole situation would be funny if it were not so absurd.

I am glad to know I am not the only one who thought this was crazy!

At my age it takes a bit to surprise me, but I think my granddaughter mananged to do just that. She announced last week that she and her husband are expecting our second great-grandchild (that's not THE surprise, but it was a surprise). After all the woo-hoo's and such we were talking about the upcoming doctor visit. She mentioned to the doctor that she wanted to be sure to get the picture of the sonogram whenever they did it to which the doctor replied, "we no longer give photo's." She asked why and the doctor explained someone had sued them because they were giving the picture's to those who wanted them on the premise that they are distributing NUDE photo's!!! That is the most ridiculous thing I think I have ever heard. It's amazing to me that abortion is rapant, no matter the stage of life, yet someone can sue and win a case that a sonogram is pornograhic in nature. Geesh!

Well said and I agree!

There is plenty of fault to go around for the problems facing our economy, but good grief, should part of the problems be the so called "let me find out how this happened" solution. I wish I had some great answer for the problems but I don't but I do know that more of the same old, same old isn't it. Pray, pray, pray!

Anyone care to discuss 1 Corinthians 14?
glorywatch replied to carlos123's topic in General Discussion
The gift of speaking in a tongue was a concern of the Corinthian church because the use of the gift had caused disorder in worship. Speaking in tongues is a legitimate gift of the Holy Spirit, but the Corinthian believers were using it as a sign of a spiritual superiority rather than a means of spiritual unity. Public worship must be understandable and edify the whole church rather than just the individual who was speaking. The way the Corinthians were using tongues was helping no one. The believers didn't understand what was being said and the unbelievers thought they were crazy. Verse 16 gives a good example when it speaks to giving blessings in the spirit (or in tongues) but the host doesn't know what you said, he is not edified. He doesn't know if you blessed or cursed the food. Gifts must be used properly to glorify God, not the person speaking. Speaking in tongues is supposed to be a sign to unbelievers, that through tongues unbelievers would see the manifestation of the supernatural. The Glory belongs to God not man. The chief end of all gifts and worship is to bring meant to repentance and surender to God. -
My favorite is the NASB as well. I love reading it on a daily basis. I still use the KJV for in-depth study. I have an Amplified as well along with the Complete Jewish Bible. I don't care for the NIV, but thats just me. I heard the EV was a real good translation as well.

What is the Apocrypha?
glorywatch replied to pokemaughan's topic in Have a problem? Looking for advice?
Jesus referenced the Jewish Old Testament canon from the beginning to the end and did not include the apocryphal in his reference. "From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation, -
Are you just making a general statement or is this directed to someone, or to non-believers specifically?

Solman, Thank you. I really appreciate you reminding me to be a rock. You are right, we do forget. Thanks for sharing your view as well. I needed to hear it!

Just stay put. That was all Adam had to do. When God created Adam he was sinless. God gave Adam a choice and like us, too often we choose the wrong thing. Without choice, Adam would have been a prisoner and his obedience would have been hollow. All he had to do was obey God and he could have rested in that obedience. Instead he chose to disobey which resulted in the loss of God-Consciousness and he gained Self- Consciousness. Adam lost the power to do good and gained the power to do evil. We are a lot like Adam in that when we become Christians, all we have to do is REST in the perfect peace that only comes through Christ Jesus. Instead we try to control our lives and we make huge messes of them. Then we become

Just one more person who has bought into the lies of the devil. He really needs our prayers. -
Very interesting.

Jeff, a good question that I wish I could say I know the answer. However, let me pose this question. How many would have perished if David had chosen one of the other choices out of the three? Seven years of famine could have produced far more than 70,000 deaths. David leaving to go on the run could have produced more than 70, 000 deaths during battle. It seems to me that David, being the sensible man, chose the right option. It is far better to fall into the hands of a merciful God, than the hands of men as David stated. Verse 16 shows that God is merciful. He did not let the angel continue to destroy although he could have. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Where God begins the good work, he carries it on. Man is never forsaken of God, nor does he forsake God, but is kept even to the end. Is it possible that God will break his word, and so stain his truth? NO! Beginning in the Old Testament all the way through the New Testament time and again, we can find verses where God has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you." God does not go back on His Word. The only condition is that we have a relationship with God to begin with.

Satan basically challenged God when he asked, "Does JOB fear God for naught?" (Chp 1: V9) Satan knew that God had placed a hedge of protection around Job and suggested that if God removed the protection that JOB would no longer fear (worship) God. Satan assumed that because JOB was a wealthy man, that if he lost all that he had, he would curse God. Satan's plans backfired because JOB refused to blame God. JOBS love of God had nothing to do with material posessions. Satan and his evil forces are the cause of destruction, not God. The only sense in which God destroys is to with-hold His protection and let Satan carry out his work in that persons life. Satan hopes that men will blame God for his destructive work. Some do. God's work is that of deliverance. Satan moved God to test JOB but only to a point. Satan had NO POWER over JOB other than what God allowed. Does God still do this today? I don't know, but God says in HIS Word...I change not. Based on that statement, I would think that it does happen, but it is purely speculation. I cannot imagine that we are so special that we would not be tried and tested just as those in the Bible were.
