"I'm telling you, Jesus wasn't poor, and He didn't wear no rags, either. Like we march in on these Easter little plays that we do at our church, with those raggedy sheets on. Jesus didn't have no rags on. He wore designer clothes, honey!"?

I believe this is, at least in part, some justification for the lavish lifestyles that Word-Faith preachers live. yet there is no evidence either from Scripture or history that Jesus "lived large."

He used to be broke and living in the slums with his single mom and siblings begging for food.

So it's just some fear issue in my eyes. But his PRIDE kills me. Sometimes he just don't admit to his mistakes until he absolutely has too! It is soooooo sad to me, that he' can't step back and see all the PRIDE issues in his life.

Sometimes I just have to stop myself from hearing his messages because they are so full of PRIDE and shallowness that I need to be careful of what my I'm letting into my heart.. know what I mean?

But that whole bodyguard issue? I never even knew he had body guards. Now that is just sad. He talks about and criticizes people in his church about having no faith in God and he does that? Man.. that's just about makes me want to stop listening to him.

Brother, that is what happens when you train yourself to think positive all the time. You forget to see the plank in your own eye.

I have nothing against faith, so let's understand this from the beginning. What I have trouble with are those who say that if you don't have something it's because you don't have the faith to have it. Whether it is a new house, health, a good job, you name it. I also have an issue with those who tell you to speak it and it will be yours, taking scripture that was spoken to those who knew that it had to be in Gods will first and leaving that part out. Here are two scripture I am talking about.

Matthew 16:19

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Amen Ovedya!

Check your heart, if your looking at all your wof preacher has (ie..money/possessions), and want it too then theres a problem.

I look at it this way: How could a televangelist gain quick success with this sort of message? Well first he needs to convince people that Jesus was wealthy, that the apostles were wealthy, and that there's nothing at all wrong or shameful for Christians to be wealthy. Then he's got to convince people to send him money, with the promise that God's word is faithful to return their "seed...thirty, seventy or one hundred fold." As long as we "plant seeds" in money form we can receive "healing" to our finances, and even physically.

Now, there is an element of truth to that message, but the WOF televangelists warp it to the unreasonable extreme in order to gain profit. While it is true that God honors our commitment to Him in terms of our tithe, and (most importantly) our faith, that God would bow to our demand for increase is simply going too far. What if it's God's desire that some of us prosper, while others do not? Either way it is according to his plan, not our desire. God is not out to satiate every superficial desire through prosperity. Yet according to the WOF preachers (and believers) if we are not prospering it is because we lack the faith to prosper: There's something wrong with us. God is just waiting to "open the floodgates" of prosperity, and all we have to do is activate our faith to open them. Not only is that irresponsible teaching, it is not at all according to the divine revelation in Scripture.

:swordfightsmiles:

I have seen people skip their electric bill payment, give it to the wof church, because they would get a 100 fold return on it anyway. Then go and blame themselves when it doesn't happen...its sad to see. Listen, God provided you with the means to pay your bill, you ignored it and choose to hand it over to the wof church instead, and the choice was made because you expected MORE after doing it. Thats NOT giving with the right heart. Thats NOT scriptual as Ovedya coverd above.

edited to add:

I just want it made clear that I have nothing against those who are into this. I know it hurts to hear this at first, it stings like nothing else. Your mind may shut these words out and your heart turn away. You may want to lash out to defend your position. Thats ok. But know this, I did the same thing when I was confronted with these truths. I didn't listen at first either. But eventually I was led out.

I like the old joke about the man who was stuck on his housetop during a flood:

The man prayed to God to save him.

When the water was up to his windows a man came by in a rowboat and offered to save him. "No thank you," said the man, "The Lord is going to save me."

When the water rose to the edge of his roof a man came by in a speedboat and offered to save him. "No thank you, the Lord is going to save me."

When the water rose up past the roof and was up to his knees, a helicopter came by and dropped a rope to him. "Climb aboard," yelled a man from the helicopter. "No thanks," yelled the man back, "The Lord is going to save me."

Eventually the water completely engulfed the man and he drowned. At the pearly gates the man approached God and said, "I had faith that you would save me from the flood. How come you didn't save me?" God replied, "What are you talking about? I sent you a rowboat, a speedboat and a helicopter."

I like that joke, it was also in the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness" with Will Smith and his son.

Sometimes though, it feel like that in my walk, I wonder if the things that passed by are God's answer.. just not in the way I expected them... anyway.. good point.

Does anybody here watch Creflo Dollar? He's my favorite(Paula White is my second favorite). I like him the best out of all the televangelists because he's a teacher. He gives practical advice and shows you how to use and apply the word of God, not just believe but how to put your faith in action. Alot of preachers just hype you up and get you excited, but his teaching gives confidence and understanding of the word.

I am very careful with the TV folks, not a big fan at all, except for Billy Graham. I especially do not like Joel Osteen, something bothers my spirit about people becoming rich off of preaching the word.

I agree.

There is a principle of faith and giving and sowing and the whole nine yards.

However, none of this should usurp simply knowing the Lord. Too often people who preach "the prosperity message" put prosperity on the throne of faith rather than Jesus Himself, and that's dangerous.

At the same time, we shouldn't reject the truth of the principle just because it's been taken out of whack. No, I don't believe Jesus was dirt poor, but I don't think He was wealthy, either. Certain Scriptures seem to indicate Jesus had a house in Capernaum. Lots of people lived in houses back then, and none would have been considered "rich."

All things need to be kept in balance, and this is one of them.

We need to seek the Lord not financial success. and the wealth we gain needs to be re-invested into the Kingdom for no other reason than for the love of God and the love of the bretheren.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
