hi everyone,

I have sincerely tried to get back to God for about a year now and it has certainly paid off.

My problem is that since I am not really in control of my life anymore, I feel uncomfortable. The changes(changes in my heart)

doesn't even make sense to me. I had the happiest life ever for three years before I started trying to seek God. And I want to hold on to that life. I am doubtful whether God would understand what would really make me happy. I feel that even if He gave me other blessings, I still want only the 'happy life' I had before. Did you go through it too?

Also I feel happy and free when I am completely into working on something or praying without worrying about any of this. Is it a case of"the idle mind is the devil's workshop"?

Hi Gerda,

Just a couple of questions that you might ask yourself.

Why are you seeking to get back to God?

Do you love this 'happy life' and the world?

Doesn't the God that you believe in know you better than you know yourself, doesn't He know what will truly make you happy and give you joy unspeakable and full of glory?

The life I came out of was not a happy nor comfortable life for me. I was happy for the change!

You mentioned that you are doubtful that God would understand what makes you happy. God created you and knows all about you, how is it that He would not understand? Maybe, it is you who does not understand what true happiness is, but have settled for the simple pleasures of this life? God has more then your mind can even grasp in future for you if you follow Him. Does not scripture tells us that we can't even fathom what He is like? He is pure in every way and wants us to have part in Him.

Hi Larry,

I am seeking to get back to God because I have come to realize that I do love Him a lot. I cannot really give you reasons, its the security He will give me, His certain love, the hope He gives me, He seems like exactly the person (for lack of a better word) I would like to stay with and live for. Maybe its because there is a hole inside me wanting to be filled. I can't point out specific reasons.

And I do love this happy life(friendships, companionship etc.) and some of the things (joy when we meet an old friend, happiness when I have a good day at college etc.) this world has to offer. If you told me to make myself insensitive to these things, hate them and love God, I would probably refuse. I know because I have tried loving God that way. A lot of Church pastors say that. But if we do not enjoy the good things of life and thank God for them, how else can we know God? When I tried to hate the world an love God, He only looked like a dull and boring teacher. I feel good about them and I am sure I will rebel a lot even when God asks me to let go of them. I am just trusting in God's infinite mercy to help me get over that rebellion, and His infinite love that will forgive me when I get back.

As for the last, I have been listening to traditional sermons, and my parents mostly force down on me what they think will keep me happy. So it is really beyond my reach to believe that somebody does know what I want. It is going to take a lot of work for God to make me trust in Him. But I am sure He will work on me.

Please advise me on what is the right thing to do.

Hi Gerda,

I do believe that God is working in your life and I hope you will one day see Him as He really is. We all have many misconceptions about God that are based on what we have been told and not on the Word of God. As you stated above you say you love God and yet you do not know that He knows you better than you know yourself. He is infinitely aware of all things. You mention security and hope and yet there is a hole that has not been filled.

Here is another question. Do you understand your NEED of being saved from your sins? Do you know you are a sinner in need of saving? Jesus came to save sinners. This world is succumbing to sin more and more every day. And there is a reason that the bible says that If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in them. It is not a matter of trying to become insensitive to the things of the world. We need God to change us. For God to change us we need to see the need for change. We need a new heart that does not love this world.

Have you read the parable of the sower?

Mark 4:3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14 The sower soweth the word.

15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word

God loves you more than you can imagine. The friendships and good feelings you get when you meet old friends isn't wrong. BUT, keep God first. If these old friends influence you in wrong ways, then you need to be sure that you are strong in your faith and lead them to Jesus rather than allow yourself to be led away. I'm not saying that your friends do that, but I'm just cautioning you to keep God first in all things.

As for you knowing what you need to be happy, well all my life experience tells me that God knows best. Have you ever heard that saying "Be careful what you pray for because you might get it". There have been many times when I was sure someone or something was exactly what I needed to be happy. Well, had I trusted God to work in my life rather than trying to tell Him what I needed, believe me I would have been much happier. Get closer to Jesus and learn to trust Him.

Hi Larry,

It is going to take a lot of work for God to make me trust in Him. But I am sure He will work on me.

Do you believe in a God that is what you want or do you want to know God as He really is?

So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. [Romans 9:16]

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
