It also could mean that they used the same word for different reasons. Form my studies, older languages had less words to deal with, so more definitions were placed on each word. Keeping this in mind, which definition above better translates to what you feel best fits the meaning of scripture? I would think rejoice better fits. Even though other words can be used through translation, rejoice, to me, best fits what we do in Christ. Boast, proud, pride and brag should not be in the makeup of a Christian. These words do not resemble humility.

Hi Paul!

I agree with what you wrote, and this also brings more proof to the fact that one word has so much power and can change the meaning of a message. Thanks for the work!

God Bless,

Alan

Hi Alan. And I agree with you about the importance of one word as well. The paradoxes of God usually do live up to the meaning of their name - "alongside glory".

And interpretation gets even more exquisite when we begin to consider how implied interpolations can radically alter meanings.

You and I agreeing? Now I'm really worried! <smile>

Take care,

p.

in my fiances provinace in sabang their are adults and young people who cant read would you say its dangerous to ofer the adults i am getting to know and the young filapino people i am getting to know the bible on tape ? what do we do do we ignor the ones that cant read or guide them and say get the bible on tape

this is something i am looking at my self i dont want any one to miss out and when i do plant a church in sabang i hope i can gain support by were i am able to give out the bible on tape

also i have seen that you know can get the bible in their own language i even have the croatian bible on line and i do go over my croatian bible i am also being taught to speak my language i have conected with a croatian on the croatian forum i am involved in ivica lives not far from me and he is also encouraging me to recconect with my people and told me if i am stuck to call him he to has the bible in croatian he is a croatian catholic

i have been reading the responces being left and while i am asking for some one to respond same goes for the blind they too have know the bible and can read it its amazing how its been done were the blind can read the bible

this is something that the lord has placed on my heart i dont mind reading from my translation i am use to reading but when i do i have to lower my tone and speak real slow and i have an interpretor also sitting next to me their are filapinos that can speak english they learnt from the american soilders and the american tv shows they watch

i would like one light or the other members to respond to my question are you against or for the bible on tape and are you also in support of people from diffrent countrys having the bible in their very own language

i read from the new spirit filled life bible the open study new inter national version i also have the american standard verison and the english standard version and gods word i use to own the old kings james and new kings james bible but i gave these two bibles away

i would like to hear your responce i am not attacking no one or am i trying to take one lights topic of its course

how do i and some of the christians i know go about this since we have members who belong to this forum disagreing with some of the translations that are printed and being sold

every one should have the right to have the bible in their own language in their homes and it should be the same when it comes to the bible on tape and cd room

damo,

My opinion: yes to Bible on tape. As you say, in some cases it's the only way. And getting the word in different ways, and via different translations, can lend valuable perspective. I once saw the Gospel of Mark dramatically narrated on stage from memory, and it was an absolute revelation, filled with things I had never seen before.

For study, nothing tops the printed word, and going back to the original languages. Even our best translations are imperfect, and sometimes glaringly so in my estimation.

A huge yes to indigenous translation!

thank you paul

its just been a big concern for me i have been involved in discussions like this and their are a lot of christians who are against having the bible in indigenous translation it realy was eating at me how are we to then fulfill what jesus says in matthew 24 to take this gospel to all the nations then the end wil come

matthew 24 english standard version

14 and this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed through out the whole world as a testimony to all nations and then the end wil come

i also have this in my own language but wil not leave what this verse says in my language

were my fiance lives their are adults who have had not gotten the chance to have a decent education and its the same with some of the young boys i had gotten to know and their are also young kids from the age of five up to the age of 15 that are not even in school pastors are trying to get sponcer ships from the western world for thes kids so they can have a fresh start in life but its left up to guys like my self who have got the patience to sit with these poor people and let them hear the gospel just like the way jesus taught the disciples they had no bibles they had the real deal jesus him self

you need to be realy understanding when it comes to the filapino people and especialy when it comes to guys like my father in law he never had an education he has worked on the land al his life a rice farmer

were i want to plant the church we have a lot of poor familys around us some can speak english and they can read these are the lucky ones but their are a lot of kids adults older generation that depend on their kids that are going threw school to teach them

they wil practice their english on you and they wil ask you questions and these are the ones i wory for

i am glad to hear that because i want to make sure every one gets the chance to hear the gospel and not just the educated and well off

it takes a lot of hard work to get it right so indigenous folk have the gospel in their language if i was to show you the croatian bible in my language and the filapino bible in my fiances language including the gospel on tape it wil confuse you even hearing the gospel in their language being preached wil confuse you but you wil know what is being said your spirit will connect and you can follow on from your english bible

thanks for responding i want to hear what the other members have to say as well this wil be intresting

I knew a completely blind woman who had the complete KJV on tape. She listened to it all day, every day. When I would read scripture to her, she would be able to tell me when I missed a word, pronounced a word wrong or even if I was in the wrong verse. Her knowledge of the word was amazing.

As for what translation is best, only God knows for sure, so I don't get into that argument unless it is very obvious.

so what is phillips? i didn't say it was the last one, just in the last 9. like, as opposed to the first 10. :noidea:

Sorry ... the Phillips is a new English version. Here is an excerpt of the version:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
