ensure that lights are off when not needed or in use.

ensure the stove/oven are off when finished

when baking (like in cookies) have enough to warrent the heating up of the oven.

cook a large meal a couple times a week and use the left overs for other meals (saves on food, able to buy in larger quantities, and saves on energy-able to use micro wave to heat up)

down sizing ( we moved from a 4 bed room 2 bath house to a one bedroom one bath ) cut gas and electric from average of about 400 a month to about 100 a month....

make lists, plan the trips to stores ( plan the meals and activities ) cut trips to store.

drive slower.... (our van, driven to School by Teresa every day was running over 100 a week in gas, dropping her speed from 65 to 55 brought the cost down to about 75 a week )

learn to do jobs around the house on your own......

buy off brands rather then name brands (care ful on the quality and contents )

buy quality over price.... walmart may be cheaper, but will the item really hold up to what you are needing (the shoes I buy there have only lasted about 3 months at a pop, where I bought some that were made in europe ( rather then asia ) that are made for the anglo foot, and they have lasted since 8 months already, and have a life time warrenty......

look around to see things and see what can be done to cut down the cost...

even drying cloths, hang them up and let them air dry, and if you like softer feel of a dryer, then put them in the dryer for only a few minutes instead of an hour.....

have a dehumidifier in the house to assist the Air conditioner... will take out the humidity and the A/C will not have to work so hard to do it.... also, by dropping the humidity in the house to 50% or lower can make it more comfortable at 80 in side then at 70 out..... (for some people this works great..)

be inventive...

Great tips! Living in Houston, the dehumidifier sounds like something I need to look into. They don't call us 'the sweatiest city' in the U.S. for nothing! :noidea:

I started to unplug things when leaving the house and when they are not in use and it helps the electric bill a lot.

Yeah, I started doing this until the other night when my husband worked very late and came home and tried to get to the dining room and I'd unplugged lights and he was fishing around in the dark... he told me that he will work an extra hour or two so that I can keep the lamps plugged in.... (he was not this calm when he said it because he had stepped on the cat and was bleeding from the wound). We rarely, if ever, have a disagreement and I had to admit that I felt like I was going an itsy bitsy overboard on the saving of electricity.... :) I had also changed the shower faucets to the water-saving kind... he has expressed to me - very kindly, that if he wanted to take a shower under a vegetable mister he'd go to the grocery store... :emot-hug: We do not drive expensive vehicles, take luxury vacations or buy anything we do not absolutely have to have - we are very conservative in spending and thrifty people... that said, I think he's right - if he wants lights and a drenching shower... he's entitled...

To save money on gas, I only use the car when needed. I walk or jog as long as it is not too far. I tried car pooling to work, but too often, people are not reliable. I also use fuel line cleaners which help save on gas.

I only turn on lights when needed, dry clothers outside if the weather permits. Also, I put insulation in my home. Although it cost me money to put tear out the outer walls, replace with drywall and have insulation in the walls, it will save big on heating and cooling costs.

so, how much money per month does it actually save to unplug things? and if a lamp is plugged in but turned off, is it really using electricity? i wonder, if i were to turn the pc off at night instead of just letting it go on standby, how much would it save? if we're talking a combined total of a buck a month, i think i'll keep the convenience.

my brother is very frugal. he actually turns the breaker to his kitchen off every night so that even the clocks on the stove and microwave don't work. i just can't believe that really saves a whole lot.

Are you serious? Doesn't he have to set them again every morning? :39:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
