Logically if one makes a pact with the Devil he can expect to incur the wrath of God.....right?

To me it's just splitting hairs. I am convinced that Robertson intended his viewing audience to conclude that Haiti and its people were cursed by God. Does the Devil curse people?

And yes, why bring it up at all?

No that is not what he said, and I can feel confident in saying that is not what he meant.

Consider:

Deut. 27

13 "For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal : Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 "The Levites shall then answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice, 15 'Cursed is the man who makes an idol or a molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.' 16 'Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 17 'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 18 'Cursed is he who misleads a blind person on the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 19 'Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 20 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's skirt.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 21 'Cursed is he who lies with any animal.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 22 'Cursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 23 'Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 24 'Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 25 'Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' 26 'Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

Would you not say that the nation of Israel put itself under a curse for having done these things spoken against here?

By Pat's understanding of the supposed pact with the devil, if it had happened as he believed, would that have not put a curse on the land?

Even without the pact, how could all that voodoo Haiti is known for not have a damaging affect on the nation, on the land?

Does the principle of reaping what is sown not applied?

** This isn't to say they deserved the misery. It's pointing out A + B = C.

Consider: if Haiti had a better infrastructure, would the earthquake have caused as much devestation as it did?

I was watching O'Reilly last night, and it was mentioned that millions of money had been poured into Haiti in the past decade - where did all that money go? (No one knows!)

Is it outside of your theology to admit that such incredible corruption might have its roots in the spiritual darkness of the land - if not by the supposed curse, but by the saturation of the voodoo practices?

This is not the first time he's put his foot into his mouth - probably won't be the last.

Do members of the media watch his show just waiting for this to happen?

I'm sure they do.

Just like they do to Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh and all the rest.

Now in my book a curse is something that comes from God. It's a punishment that God renders when His people fall into sin or commit wickedness in his presence. Anytime in the Bible when God cursed another people it was when they took something holy and defiled it, or if they came against His people.

Actually, according to Jesus, a curse can simply be being turned over to the tormentors (reference: the parable of the unforgiving servant).

And as we can read in Job, Satan can indeed cause natural disasters and sickness and all that.

What I stated above, and maintain, was that Robertson intended to allude to the fact that this was a curse from God that the Haitian people brought upon themselves. Sure, he didn't outright say it.....after all that would be a horribly insensitive statement. :noidea:

No, that is your interpretation of what he said based on your theology. That theology is not shared by him nor several of us evangelicals.

Truthfully, when I saw a clip of what Pat said on the O'Reilly factor last night, I actually saw more compassion coming out of Pat towards the Haitian people (he spoke as one who cared and was concerned, not as one who was angry and pointing fingers) than I am seeing being given to Pat here.

Should we judge a man by his words or his actions. I think Robertson's actions in this case far outweigh any random opinion he may or may not have.

I'd be willing to bet that Robertson is doing more for the population of Haiti right now than all of the reporters put together who are using his words to divide Christians.

what is the most important work that one can do for a nation and it's people in times of crisis?

pray.

pat robertson has made a public call to prayer for haiti and its people, that beauty will rise from the ashes, the people will be restored to God, and that God will be glorified in wake of this tragedy.

now as far as he, the man, is concerned, i have no opinion. pat robertson is of no interest to me at all. i'm neutral.

but as to the persecution he is getting by so many wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ, i'm very disturbed. this isn't even something exclusive to robertson... it's something i see anytime any famous man of God says something stupid or does something wrong. everyone seems to jump on the proverbial bandwagon to assign motive to the deed.

may i lovingly remind everyone here that WE can not see into this man's heart, and to assign motive and agenda to what he said during an interview is equally as "wrong" as robertson's words were, if they indeed had any malicious intent.

i would much rather see you all focusing on his call to PRAY for these people rather than gossip about him. :noidea:

Bless you both!

This is not the first time Pat has spoken out about the spiritual condition of a nation or people after something bad has happened. On the reverse side, he also uses their faith as the reason why good things happen. This is what he believes.

He can say this to any one, any city or any country whenever he likes. But when you make statements like this AFTER

a catastrophe this huge makes him (and Christians) seem like buttheads.

How many times have you sent Mr. Robertson a letter voicing your concerns.

Matthew 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

Just some reports on Haiti and voodoo.

Throughout the month of July there are voodoo ceremonies and pilgrimages all over Haiti.

<snip>

Despite the suspicions of other religions, and despite its reputation for black magic, voodoo is ever more deeply rooted in this Caribbean country of some eight million people.

As the Catholic missionary John Hoet admits: 'Haitians may be 95% Catholic, but they are 100% voodoo."

Haiti makes voodoo official

Over 90% of Haitians are said to practice voodoo

Voodoo has been practised in Haiti since the late 18th Century, but only now has it been recognised as a religion on a par with others worshipped in the country.

Haiti's Catholic President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, took the decision earlier in April which means that voodoo ceremonies such as marriages now have equal standing with Catholic ones.

The mixture of gods and goddesses and Catholic saints is an integral part of Haitian life - one common saying is that Haitians are 70% Catholic, 30% Protestant, and 100% voodoo.

"We've always been the majority religion in Haiti - it's never been illegal to be a voodooisant," said Mambu Racine Sumbu, an American voodoo priestess who has been practising in Haiti for 15 years.

She told the BBC World Service's Reporting Religion programme: "What President Aristide has done for us, for which we are very thankful, is to facilitate us in obtaining the status that we need to perform legally-binding religious ceremonies."

Grace to you,

Danny Glover, the actor, said today, and I paraphrase, "The earthquake in Haiti was caused by mother earth because we missed our chance to heal Global warming in Copenhagen."

Does anyone have any condemnation for Danny Glover? :whistling::horse::b:

Peace,

Dave

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
