Pawn Stars and American Pickers are very interesting shows in my opinion.

Pawn Stars can show you how crooked people can be, I was watching it one time when an older gentlemen brought in a Colt revolver from the Civil War era. They offered and paid him $300.00 which I knew right away was a rip off, that revolver was worth a lot more than that. The Pawn Stars resold the revolver for over $1000.00, now I believe in making a profit but taking advantage of that older gentlemen was just wrong.

And whats so sad about the show, they have experts that tell how VALUABLE the item is, and they still let the people talk them down. I feel that the need for the money is so great, it blocks good common sense  , which should shout!! DID YOU HEAR THAT? :o YOU'VE GOT A GREAT AND PRICELESS PIECE OF HISTORY!! :runforhills: GET OUT OF THERE :horse: AND FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL PAY THE A HIGHER PRICE.

True. Heck, they could get better offers if they put their stuff on eBay.

Isn't that what ALL pawn shops do? They never give you what an item is worth. They buy low, and sell high. The people selling the item need money and are willing (for some reason) to make that deal. If you take a $1000 dollar item to a pawn shop...they are not gonna give you $1000 and then re-sell the item for $1000. They will pay you as little as they can and then re-sell for as much as they can.

Thats not crooked, thats business. Nobody forced the guy to sell his gun to a pawn shop. Nobody forced him to take the deal.

I see your point Ax, but I'll still call it crooked when you take advantage of someone who is down an out and has to sell a family heirloom because they need the money. I didn't say they couldn't make a profit (that's the American way) but buying for $300.00 and selling for over a $1000.00, I wonder how they can sleep at night, at least they could of paid the man half of what the gun was worth.

SO if someone was selling a $5000 dollar car for $2000 because they needed the money...you wouldn't buy the car for $2000? You would insist on paying more?

Like I said...nobody forced this man into the pawn shop, and nobody forced him to take the $300. He opted to take that option over a variable of other options available in todays world. Its this same mentality that is shutting down payday loan joints all over the country. If you don't like the terms of the deal...turn around and walk away.

I don't know...I'm just a very pro-business type of guy...lol.

I rarely watch tv anymore except news and maybe a few drama shows. but most of tv shows are garbage. like these supernatural shows and vampires tv shows, not my thing, it's hard for me to find a decent movie. last decent movie i rented was the secrets of johnathon sperry which was good.

 Your car deal and the pawnshop are two different things. In the car deal the seller is setting the price and not the buyer. When the seller sets the price, it is obviously a price he is happy with.

Try going into a butcher shop and and telling a butcher you don't want to pay the $10.00 price for a steak but you will pay $1.00. What do you think the reaction of the butcher will be? You may get the point, of the butcher knife that is, when your being helped out the door.

Oh I'm pro-business too, I just believe in a fair trade.

I remember when somebody would come to our farm and want to buy one of our cows. We would say that we want X amount of dollars, then the buyer would say he will pay a lower amount. Then we would lower our price maybe $50.00 and then the buyer would come up $50.00 on his offer, this would go back an fourth until there is a price we are both happy with, that is fair trade. Sometimes we couldn't come to an agreement and the would be buyer would walk out of the barn empty handed, that is the way business is. We have been both the buyer and the seller and I can't remember of a time that we would take advantage of someone when they were down on their luck, we always paid a fair market price. :emot-handshake:
