I have had no cable at all since 2006. However, I read books like there is no tomorrow and when I feel like watching something visual, I rent a movie from the DVD rental store.

My children have gotten so unused to TV that they get bored by it and find it difficult to sit and watch.

Hmmm.

Now reading about the shows MG posted, ... I have no regrets!!

Dirty Jobs is educational. Some of these jobs you never heard of or thought of. And not all jobs are gross - they just involve getting dirty - coal mine, charcoal maker, bakery (getting covered in flour and such), etc. One time he was out working with soldiers in the field.

Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers aren't show I have watched, but they give us a look into the real lives of people working some dangerous, potentially fatal, jobs. Again, these are educational.

Now those other things . . . yeah, I agree with you there!

No argument about the jobs people have to do; they're important. And it may be educational too but...most people don't want to learn how to devein shrimp and WON'T do the dangerous jobs. Neb, you work in the education field, you have to know how many people are functionally illiterate (defined as not being able to complete a job application without help)....why not have shows that teach people proper English or basic math or how to use a computer for something other than games (basic MSoffice programs)? Now THAT would help the populace. Why do we have no input into what is offered?

MG needs a chat addiction  . Then one day you will wake up and realise you have lost the remote control, haven't seen it for three weeks, and you don't even care :taped: .

I just don't do chat; it requires more time than I have since I'm at work most of the time. Anyway, I can't get into Worthy chat and I don't know of any other. :noidea:

Okay, maybe I'm just getting too old to 'get it' or I'm not on the same wavelength as others but.....good grief! Like most of you, I pay for cable television. Lately I've been asking myself 'why?' There is nothing on the airwaves I want to watch so I sat down and looked into what's out there and I came up with the following.....

'Dirty Jobs' Gross and disgusting ways to make a living.

'Intervention' The saddest, most dysfunctional people I've ever seen.

'American Pickers' Basically, they're junk men.

'Pawn Stars' They run a pawn shop. :noidea: (Truthfully, at first I thought it was 'Porn Stars'! That may be next.)

'Keeping up with the Kardashians' Really low class, foul mouthed women who seem to do nothing but argue and disrespect their mother.

'Deadliest Catch' They're fishermen.....okay, it's a hard job but is it entertainment?

'Ice Road Truckers' They drive trucks over icy roads.

'Kate Plus 8' A boring single mother with eight kids (kids are cute but hardly entertainment.)

'Gangland' A running commentary on various types of gangs and how most of them get killed.

'The Real Housewives of .......insert city name here' Really spiteful, foul mouthed, completely fake women who sit around and insult each other.

"Jersey Shore' Unattractive, fashion challenged, amoral young people who do nothing except curse, drink and sleep together.

'Hoaders; Buried Alive' People who keep every single thing they come in contact with, have 75 cats and live in filth so deep it requires a bulldozer to clean their house.

And that's not even close to all.....I read today that the Salahis (White House crashers) and this flight attendant who released the plane's emergency chute (he was arrested) are going to have their own shows too.

Who watches this stuff? I've never watched more than five minutes of any of the above and never will. Is it the economy? It's cheaper to hire those that aren't famous for anything? Or is it that Americans want this? And what about you that live in other countries? Is this happening everywhere? :noidea:

Oh but you forgot "Ancient Aliens." They try to make a case for the Pyramids and other ancient structures being the product of ancient, alien technology.

Most of those shows are marginally interesting. A lot of them are on the History Channel, and I challenge whether or not they count as historical material. They belong on A & E, not on the History Channel.

Well, 'Ancient Aliens' is a show that leaves me scratching my head and asking 'did he just really say that?'. I mean these are supposed to be intelligent people (especially the guy with the crazy hair!) and I'm sure they are but......they're all also three bricks shy of a retaining wall IMO. I agree; that stuff is not 'history'..........unless you live in some parallel universe. :whistling:

It is amazing what grown men and women will allow themselves to believe. Dr. Zahi Awass a major Egyptologist has debunked the alien thing rather soundly. Have you seen his show "Chasing Mummies?" It is on the History Channel on Wed. at 9 pm CST.

The TV only gets turned on when Fez is at home.

I would watch the washing machine on spin cycle if my TV was broken, as long as it was drying colors - black and white went out so long ago....

Yes, I watch that show when I can. Dr. Awass has done a phenomenal job in protecting and restoring Egyptian antiquities and he's pretty down to earth in his approach to history.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
