Why are we waiting for Elijah to come with (some say Moses or) Enoch? According to the Bible, didn't Elijah already come and was put to death?

Matthew 17:11

Jesus replied, "Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn't recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer."

I don't understand why even some belive Moses is going to come when Moses died also in the wilderness?

Jude 1:9

But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, "The Lord rebuke you!" (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses' body.)

The only one who did not die or return to die was Enoch, so why do so many preachers say Moses or Elijah have yet to return before the last days?

By the way, this is just a topic for fun and I don't want any heated arguments to break out because it's not a salvation matter. Just for fun so please lets not get angry or upset over anything discussed here.. thank you..

Actually from a little research even Enoch has already died.. the book of Hebrews writes this after mentioning many of the patriarchs including Enoch.

Hebrews 11:13

"All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth."

blessings Blien,

first Elijah did not die physically

2 Kings 2:11:

11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

second i do think the other witness will be Enoch and not Moses.

love your sister in Christ,

Rebekah David

(John the baptist was being refered to as having the Holy Spirit like Elijah in the gospels )

hope that helps.

Genesis 5:24:

24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Hi Rebekah,

I don't understand, what do you mean he was referred to as having the Holy Spirit? I don't get it?

"But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn't recognized" ..it sounds very clear to me that John was Elijah. And he prepared the way for the Lord's coming.. "I am the voice of one in the wilderness shouting 'make straight the way for the Lord'"

I think John came in the spirit of Elijah, but I'm not sure if that fulfills all the prophesy. I'm interested in everyone's opinion.

I am really in the mood for a good fight over something though...... so watch it brother...... or sister.... or whatever.

I love a good fight bro lol.

I think Jesus gives us a key when He describes John as Elijah...but only if people can wear it. So in a way John carried the mantle or authority of Elijah...but prophesy has a way of being partially fulfilled, but later more directly and more completely fulfilled....so it would seem that Elijah and Enoch could possibly be the prophets mentioned in Revelation, and who will actullly have a physical presence here on earth. I would like to correlate the Scriptures but have to run, maybe someone else can...Rivka?

What we first need to understand is that in Hebrew thought, time is circular. There is no "one" event, but events are repeated. This is why there's a particular day each year the Jews dread (sometime in August I think) because several bad things happened on that date throughout history (i.e the destruction of the Temple).

The Abomination that Causes Desolation has been cyclical like that - the Greek general who set up an idol to Zeus in the Temple was one, but Jesus spoke of it as a future event. Christians in Jerusalem in 70AD interpreted Jesus' words to correlate with the destruction of Jerusalem, and they fled as He said to do. But there is still the prophecy in Revelation about this.

So with that understanding, the coming of Elijah does not have to be a one time event.

The other Hebrew principle we need to understand is that of "in the name of." Paul explained this concept to Philemon when he told him to treat his servant as if the servant were Paul himself. It's the same principle as being an ambassador, but in the Hebrew (and other Eastern cultures) they regarded one person as another when someone came "in the name of" that other person.

Thus, John the Baptist "was" Elijah in that way.

Mixing this with the principle above, there can/will be another "Elijah" - not the original man, but one "in the name of Elijah."

Enoch and Elijah are to be killed by the beast. Revelation 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

and will be seen on tv and internet....

Reference,please.

Revelation 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

How else can people and kindreds and tongues and nations can see there bodies from around the world except by todays media such as net and tv?

and because of it they will party Revelation 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

I don't see where the two are said to be Enoch and Elijah. We just know that there are two live prophets. I think it conjecture on our parts to decide that it is that two.

I don't see why it can't be just two chosen people alive today.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
