-even the death penalty if their family members died as a result of their inaction.

-Could that"Inaction"also be defined as:

"HYPOCRITICAL--RELIGIOUS-STUPIDITY?" :huh:

-How about:

"HYPOCRITICAL--RELIGIOUS--COWARDICE??" :)

True story...A man was walking late at night when he noticed three men coming toward him from out of the shadows. He stopped and the three told him to give them all his money. One had a knife. The man said, "I belong to Jesus Christ and the evil one cannot touch me."(1John 5:8) The 3 said, "What did you say?" and he repeted, "I belong to Jesus Christ and the evil one cannot touch me." The robbers laughed and said "give me your credit cards too.

What are you stupid? That will just make them laugh when they kill you rather then just killing you!

You are being RELIGIOUSLY stupid! That will not work. God gave you a resposability, that is to watch over your familys life.

having only read the first two pages, i'm gonna jump in here and give my opinion... and i've expressed this opinion a thousand times to my daughters when they would ask how much i love them and how far i'd go to protect them.

i would kill or die for my daughters.

i've seen several people bring up matthew 5:28, about turning the other cheek. this is not referring to life or death situations. this is referring to insults! in that culture, and indeed even today, a slap in the face is considered the ultimate insult. when one insults you, ignore it. if one slaps your face, give him the other cheek to slap.

if one has a knife to your child's throat, or your wife's throat, shoot him. you do NOT turn the other cheek and look the other way. that is NOT scriptural.

someone please look up the scripture when Jesus commanded his disciples to pick up their swords, and if they did not own one, go purchase one. i just woke up and want to catch up on the rest of the recent posts, so i'll leave it to someone else to post the scripture. Jesus didn't tell people to buy a sword to cut down brush! he told his disciples to purchase a sword for self defense.

regarding Christ's rebuke of peter for slicing the sodier's ear off, there was a reason for that. Jesus had to be taken and crucified to fulfill scripture. had He not replaced the guy's ear and forgiven him, had He allowed peter to get away with slicing off that ear, it would have resulted in peter being killed, which would have prevented him from fulfilling his future in the ministry.

nevermind, i just noticed kittyjo already posted the scripture i was referencing.

Trinity, your post just brought the thought to me that maybe this question is so basic and the answer is so simple that He (Jesus) didn't think maybe we really needed scripture to tell us what is built into us from the very beginning.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I might add to all and not just Trinity, that here in Oklahoma you can not use deadly force in protecting your property, only in protecting life, and then if there was a chance to do something else you could still be liable for your actions. (Example: if someone is breaking into your house and you are by yourself and you could slip out a back window but chose to confront a person breaking into your house, you would be at the mercy of the prosecuting attorney as to whether charges are filed)
So, at least here you should be very sure that there is no other way but to kill to protect your and your family's very life, or you could be in trouble, and it is not OK to kill over property. This is also the rules for all our law enforcement people as has been told to me by both sheriff's office people and our Highway Patrol Officers.
Sorry, had to weigh in on this one (albeit a bit late).
I have had many years of training in deadly force in the protection of people and property (high-value government equipment). I trained security forces and instructed them in deadly force doctrine and implementation, including at what point things go from containment to all-out, no-holds-barred protection.
To muddy the water, my current church (Conservative Mennonite) has a strong history of nonresistance. We have had many believers killed because they refused to take up arms (or whatever was handy) and protect their families. I WAS an adherent to that doctrine (mind you, this after a career of building WMD's and force security training).
My mind was changed by my children, as I listened in horror as my two daughters related to me what their "uncle" had done to them over a period of some years. It wasn't enough that this "person" ruined them psychologically for the forseeable future; his girlfriend stood solidly in his corner and called the kids liars (in spite of evidence to the contrary).
So, I agree with the majority of my church doctrine, EXCEPT for nonresistance. I carry a loaded weapon with spare magazines anywhere my kids go, and would not hesitate one second to open fire on anyone or anything threatening them with bodily harm, if such cannot be avoided (This "person" is free and walking the streets; he was "awarded" 120 days in the jail, admonitions to stay away from the kids, and a fine!) I would prefer that he remain away from us, but I can't see limiting my kid's activities due to the failure of the criminal court system. As I told my doctor, "The at-large public is perfectly safe; but if this individual should ever show up near my kids, then I will have to take it as an overt act of aggression against them and deal with it.
Does my church endorse my stance? Certainly not! Do they understand my stance? Yes, and they know that this issue is between the Lord and I... :huh:
    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.
      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.
      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.
      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.
      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”
    • Understanding the Enemy!
      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!
      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.
      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,
      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.
      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!
    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,
      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.
      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."
      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
