I don't really see why they would cause people to stumble unless they are offensive etc. My brother, for instance, has a tattoo of an artistic interpretation of a Bible verse done by a friend of ours. I really don't see how that could cause anyone to stumble.

Most people even in the secular world still view tattoos as taboo. In the corporate arena it's still very hard to get a job and near impossible move up the corp latter if you have visible tattoos. So though someone with a tattoo might be completely on fire for the Lord the outside world might just see the tattoo and dismiss them without even hearing what they have to say or seeing how they live their lives.

I have to say, I don't agree that most people see tattoos as taboo. I'm relatively sure we move in different circles, so maybe it is just that, but I think they are so common place these days that I don't think most people give them much of a thought now. I do agree it can make it harder in the corporate arena but that isn't really what we're talking about.

As I've mentioned, my brothers tattoo is based on a Bible verse and he has had people asking him what it is and it has been a useful chance for him to talk about the Bible.

Yeah, I'd like this on my foot in nice artistic scroll.

Psa 119:105 NUN: Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.

I love Psa. 119, doing a word study on it the word, law is a lamp to my feet and a light to my cycle, path-cycle makes soo much sense since everything in scriptures are based on cycles. I wonderd why David put cycles there till I thought about my life and each day is basically the same yet on any given day I 'see' something on that 'path' that clarifies something so I now can see what David meant! Sorry thats completely off topic but when I saw your posts it reminded me what I had learned so long ago that has helped me in so many ways! sorry again!!

shalom,

Mizz

Tattoo's are very very common today. Go to a water park or a beach and take a look.

But this is the danger when a style gets that popular it means it is about over, then the tide will turn and "clean" skin will be in. But unlike hairstyles or clothing styles or even hair color or piercings, tattoo's can't easily be changed.

I just think that even though the Leviticus law's do not all apply to us today, there is great wisdom in all of them I would rather be like the Jews of the OT than the Pagans. Once again though let me say I have no judgment against people who have tattoo's. I wanted one at one time in my life and just never got around to doing it which I am happy about now. I would just encourage my kids to color their hair purple or pierce their tongue rather than get a tattoo if they want to do something wild with their look.

Hello All,

I am sure this has been discussed in the past but I wanted to know what everyone's take is...

I know a lot of people refer to Leviticus 19:28: Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

I have heard many different opinions on this subject and this verse in particular. In regards to the scripture, I have heard that God wanted to separate His people from the pagan people and did not want them to get involved with their practices...ie...cutting their bodies in memory of their dead..

thoughts?

Our bodies are temples that Christ dwells in. As such, we are not to defile them with markings and tattoos.

But tongue piercing is so much more dangerous than tattoos. People have nearly died from infections from tongue piercing, not to mention the damage it does to teeth .

Well while I'd not relate them to doing something wrong, I would never get one myself. And those ladies who get them on thier lower backs about the belt line are going to have a real awakening when they get pregnant......

:24: :24: :24:

Now add 20 or 30 years to their age. :o Things do fade and sag with age . . . :whistling:

I see all the 20 somethings on campus with their tatts all over everywhere where I work on a university campus . . . its gonna be ugly in a few years . . . :taped::laugh:

well... i believe totally and completely in the bible as truth plain and simple. If the lord says do not do it then let's not do it. Is it easy not to do the things that we should not do? absolutly it isn't. We must totally and completely rely on the Holy Spirit to gives us strength to do the will of God.

I know, but they go away, they grow back if you don't use them. Tattoo's are also dangerous you can catch all sorts of blood born illnesses. But I am against both; I guess I would stick with the purple hair. Also don't they have that temporary tattoo's anyway now? I mean if I were to get one I would get one of those so I could change it every so often. I mean when I look at pictures of my hair 20 years ago I am very glad indeed I am not stuck forever with that one hair style, which is what you are stuck with if you have a permanent marking etched under your skin.

I have had my tongue pierced for almost 5 yrs, and actually the piercing is the reason I still have my tongue. I had a seizure in April that caused me to grind my teeth, and the metal in my tongue is where my teeth got caught. Stopped me from grinding my teeth totally through it...

My teeth were already destroyed by pregnancy before I got it.

so if I may... :P :P :P :P

lol you know I had to!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
