I'm not questioning the bible at all, i know it to be true and reliable. but we cant ignore the scientific evidence that we now have through astronomy, but rather interpret in light of god's word. it would not be a contradiction by any means if god waited billions of years till he made earth and everything in it.....actualy if our solar system was in any other place in the universe or at any other time we would have a very obscured view of the stars and galaxies and not be able to study it in amazment....

I didn't come up with it myself but rather the astronomers who ran the computer models and simulations did, there where a few episodes of nova where many astronomers came up with the same conclusion......... i can't promise anything but i'll try to get more info

P.S. i'm thankful for science- i'd hate to live in the day's of old where the earth was flat and you had to be carefull not to fall of the edge of the world

What amazes me is what used to pass itself off as perfunctory evidence that the universe is billions and billions and billions of years old based on the distance between the most distant galaxies etc. The scientific community nearly crucified Trevor Norman and Barry Setterfield for ever suggesting such a thing as the decay of c. (the speed of light) yet the most recent school of thought is that the universe is billions of times larger than the visible universe and that it got that big almost entirely in the first fraction of a second after the big bang.

In other words, even though they will never admit it, their reasons for dating the universe beyond a few thousand years was the size of it and the time it takes light to travel across it... but with an inflationary factor a millisecond after the big bang (in their minds) it is perfectly acceptable that the universe ballooned to present size in a fraction of a fraction of a second.

Hah?

***Sorry, this is not a forum for videos, even if they support Christianity. ***

Listen for the words "expansion" "inflation" and the "Hubble expansion" which took place in the first milliseconds of the exsistence of the universe and then the typical double speak and circular reasoning to make it billions of years old rather than some 7-10 thousand years ago.

but NO WHERE in the bible does it state that the universe is thousands of years old- it gives no hint either way to confirm or deny, but god has given mankind wisdom and knowledge to study his creation, i mean come on dear brothers and sisters in christ, it's because of us christians burying our heads in the sand that the world laughs and mocks us- again i say we must stop ignoring scientific evidence when it presents it self. a good question to ask ourself is that when anysort of evidence presents itself and it is PROVEN thru the scientific method to be true but yet it seems to conflict with scripture we should do the same thing when we come to bible verses that look like they contradict themselves- carefuly examine both and try to find a way to see how they dont conflict even though it looks like they do.

I am a firm believer in a 6 day creation. There are quite a few sites such as Answers in Genesis that have some interesting things on them. I'm not sure I'm a fundamentalist or not. If the term means that I trust the bible then I am. I trust the bible more than I do scientists. Most scientist would deny the resurrection of Christ.

The reasons for this are simply the large amount of scientific evidence in existence in the status quo which seems to indicate an old universe and world. I take the Hebrew word "yom" in Genesis under its third definition (a long period of time). I also agree with those who have stated that this isn't a huge issue within most Christian communities and I regret seeing it tear groups apart.

A small correction: the universe is estimated to be about 13.7 billion years old. The Earth is dated to about 4.5 billion years.

If I read your post correctly we have to conclude that different interpretations (based in this case on one single word) of the Bible can cause a deviation of a factor 1,000,000 between truth and falsehood.

True viole. However, I would contend that the context and science adequately supports my position as being the most logical. Again, to the majority of Christians I know the age of the universe and the earth is not a huge issue to them and it is not a major issue in terms of salvation from my point of view.
