Mexican town celebrates Easter with ‘burning of the Jews’

The Reverend Billy Graham has apologised for a taped conversation with former President Nixon in which he said the Jewish "stranglehold" of the media was ruining the United States and must be broken.

The remarks came in 500 hours of tapes Nixon had secretly recorded during the first six months of 1972 which have now been released by the US National Archives.

"Although I have no memory of the occasion, I deeply regret comments I apparently made in an Oval Office conversation with President Nixon some 30 years ago," Mr Graham said in a statement released by his Texas public relations firm.

"They do not reflect my views and I sincerely apologise for any offence caused by the remarks," he said, adding that he had spent his life building bridges between Jews and Christians.

In the taped conversation, Mr Graham said the Jewish "stranglehold" on the media "has got to be broken or this country's going down the drain".

"You believe that?" Nixon replies.

"Yes, sir."

"Oh boy. So do I. I can't ever say that but I believe it," Nixon says.

"If you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something," Mr Graham replies.

Later in the conversation, when Nixon raises the subject of Jewish influence in Hollywood, Mr Graham says:

"A lot of Jews are great friends of mine. They swarm around me and are friendly to me, because they know that I am friendly to Israel and so forth, but they don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country, and I have no power and no way to handle them."

Nixon, who became friends with Mr Graham in the 1950s during his time as vice president in the Eisenhower administration, then advises: "You must not let them know."

Nixon, like me, was a Quaker, albeit one whose approach to politics from the very start was went against all our values, so this is a reflection on the problems within members of my own tradition as with Graham. Graham it should be noticed repented of this.

Anti-semitism began with the Catholics and continued with the Protestants. And kinow the people in that village are not Christians. They are Anti-Semites. You can't be both.

Guys you really need to understand it within the context of the rituals of mexico. There is a vast culture of masks, costumes and rituals that date back to the indigenous religions of the area. They have the same kind of dance rituals with animals, other groups of people etc. It isnt antisemetic. To them, they do not even make any connection to a Jew or Israel. A Jew is just a name for a character the same way any other one of their masks are called by a name. You wouldnt even recognize the effigy.

This is an image of one such judas figure. Its on fire so its hard to see but it is a skin mask with horns (or ears, either one is used typically) and elaborately painted. At its feet, also being burned, are wooden swords and other similar masks representing romans and pharisees. All of which is burning evil at the end of a lenten long battle between good and evil. It has nothing to do with Jews.

They take the story of the passion of Christ and incorporate so much paganism that it is barely recognizable as the passion.

The pictures Ive found of the one mentioned in the article are similarly elaborate. They all contain borat so I do not know what is real or staged in those photos.

The people in that town are local indians. They are not even likely practicing a recognizable catholicism. I doubt they even know what a jew is.

Some of the most virulent anti-Semites have been Jews. Not everyone on the left is anti-Semitic, but overall the left is anti-Semitic, especially the socialist and communist dregs that infect the left.
