The gift of prophecy

Discernment is an absolute necessity if one wishes to claim that gift, yet, far better to let others acknowledge said gift rather that claim

it and then commence to fail at what you say you have as a gift

Dave777, there are still prophets today , however their is no "new knowledge" revealed to them today as in the past. Everything that is revealed to Prophets of God today, line up with the Word of God. There are things that are deeper as the Body grows in Christ, however, there is ALWAYS WITHOUT EXCEPTION Scripture to follow up with what they have been told.

God's revealing Himself to us is not found beyond the 66 Books that make up the Bible.

True Prophets ALWAYS point to the testimony of Jesus Christ and His Word:

Revelation 1:1-3

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: forthe testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

I would also like to add that an interesting question would be "Well why is that? Why is there nothing new revealed? Why

are not new things revealed?"

I do not know for sure, but I think a good guess would be that less and less attention is being paid to the reality of seducing

spirits who come as teaching spirits and catch some unawares and convince them they are the Holy Spirit when in fact

they are evil.

Jesus warned of this phenomena and we see it already at work in the NT.

As these severe warnings are not paid the attention they deserve, more and more are following after signs and wonders

and doctrines of demons and refuse to heed the warnings ALREADY in scripture, let alone the oddballs who keep insisting

that there are NO NEW revelations.

So what is actually happening? There are literally thousands of new revelations which is, my thought on why we are

told not to add to the words of scripture. We are told NOT to add because most people are not on guard against

the deception that is allowing these so called revelations to have circulation. Therefore, we know that our words,

if we speak for the Lord, must line up with scripture.

Conclusion: I can guarantee you that the devil will so turn your head around if you are seduced, that those who speak

the truth will sound like the ones that are without the Holy Spirit. That, is deception and it is happening in many places,

in many ways and as close to home as those who accept what they do not understand as sound.

There is a strong command not to add to the Bible.

There is also a warning in Galatians 1 that adding to the Bible or perverting it even if an angel from heaven is the “messenger” will bring a curse. So a warning I suppose to those who claim to have the gift of prophecy...

Deut. 4:2

You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Deut. 12:32

Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.

Prov. 30:6

Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

Gal 1:6-12

6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Rev. 22:18-19

18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

God reveals Himself in His Word. The canon is closed.

Recently a friend of mine mentioned he has had people come up to him to tell him some "new" revelation.

He said, "If it's new it's not true. New revelation? God's revelation is found in the Bible."

Beware

Of these who call themselves prophets, who say that Christ or God or a heavenly angel talked with them face to face and gave them instruction. These are "false prophets".

Let us look at a few Scriptures:

Acts 9:3b - 5 - Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, Saul, Saul, why do you percecute me? Who are you Lord? Saul asked. I am Jesus whom you are percecuting.

Dan 8:17 - As he came near to the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostate. v.18. While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.

Rev 1:17 - When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.

Those who have had an encounter with God, Christ or a heavenly angel, fall to the ground, but the angel will say rise, for I myself are but a message giver.

There are no casual face to face encounters with the God Head, with this person being in an upright position.

This in no way should take away from dreams.

Look at that again, We have ministering spirits (Angels) that give direction, messages, and the Holy Spirit also directs and leads us. It's OK to say that the Lord said this, or an Angle whispered this. These things happen constantly. Jesus has appeared to many and gave instructions, He is still head of his Church and at times needs to paint neon signs for someone to get it. We are told to prove all things, and any message we think we are given must hold up under the Word of God.

Jesus Is Lord.

Well...we now also have the thread that firestormx started...and I understand his questionning...and for once I opened up and gave personal

illustration...regarding a word of knowledge..in which, from time to time I do seem to operate...yet, I can see, no matter how careful I tried

to be...what I wrote is not being understood and it seems disagreement is forming.

Now, ya'll know why..as the song says (and not everyone will know this song) I keep my visions to myself

yeah, it hurts to be called a fake or weird or worse, but if God does bestow a prophetic gift on you, that is ultimately His decision and

if it is real, it will operate and if you run (I have) a big fish might swallow you up...I still get...oh you just imagined that...even when 'it'

happens....so, perhaps that is why the prophets hid in the caves back in the day...well, that and the evil queen of course LOL!

If a women ask me why did her baby die, though she lived in sin, I certainly would not answer that with God needed another Child to sing in Heaven and he saw evil to come. I would not say because you lived in sin. I would have to hear the Holy Spirit as to why, and lots of times we hear but cannot say as the people won't understand or bare it. We can use it to minister though.

We do have to be careful, I think we speak sometimes with abundance of revelation in one area, that others don't have and they become confused or upset at times. In reality we are right, but needed to take the time to explain and use better judgement on the wording.

As for Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, most Prophecy contain these gifts also. To be an effective as a minister, I also like yourself get words of Wisdom, (Future) or Knowledge (Past Present) from the Lord to help. In fact I have been used more in these gifts than any other gift. Without it we can't really help people with issues because we have to be shown exactly the root and where the enemy is bothering them in. People often themselves can only see surface effects, God see's all and we need to hear from Him to be effective.

My last hard one was when someone I knew found their sister dead in the living room and was asked to ask God to raise them. The Lord told me straight away not to ask him that, but with no reason why.

The gifts are real, they are to help, they are not to lead other peoples Flocks around, not to dictate to the whole body, but to be a edification and help when needed as the Spirit Wills.

I find speaking a whole lot less than I used to helps...in fact, I recommend it...time tends to temper this gift....or, it becomes a parody of what it should have been

I do not agree with some of the ways people use a word of knowledge...to try and obtain information or those lineups where people wait to get prayed

over by the person who 'has that gift' or states they are a 'prophet'

Actually, I think I see God withholding a lot of things because of the misuse of His gifts. People, IMO, were never meant to be super televangelists

or healers or prophets or whatever. I just don't see that

Frankly, I would never try to 'raise the dead'.....for more than one reason but anyway........

I actually steer pretty much clear of miracle meetings and such...been to them....years ago....I don't see a Biblical precedent...yes, I do know

that people lined up to be healed by Jesus, but I don't see all kinds of real healings happening. I see a whole lotta hooplah and not much else

and disenfranchised people and often and sadly, lots of $$$ in the plate, but probably getting off topic for this thread

I do agree that the gifts are real...its the majority of the unreal I see out there though...I have done quite a bit of research into this

type of thing because of my own family's involvement in a ministry when I was very young...and a family member who pulled in

the whole family and it was nothing but a disaster

say...guess I would have prayed...mind you I'm not a minister of course...but certainly been in ministry and worked with pastors

There is the real though, and God can use anyone at any time. No wonder Paul said despise not prophecy, but hold onto that which is true. They must have abused it in his time also.

don't think it was any different then, once things got going, then it is now....you can read all about the sin and the error in the NT
