Holy Spirit baptism was a promise. It was promised to and given to Christ's apostles, not everyone. It occured on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2. It occurred but once again (not quite the same as Acts 2) to the house of Cornelius as recorded in Acts 10,11, for the purpose of confirming to the Jew that God included the gentiles as well. It has not occured since.

One cannot even be a Christian without having the Holy Spirit in their heart. Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Hi Allofgrace

I have no problem with your post, although its possible I do not interpret them meaning of the post as you meant it.

God bless

Hi

I'm not a member of any denomination. The church in the Bible is not a denomination.

I believe the Bible teaches water baptism to be essential to salvation, Mark16:15,16.

God bless

So if I understand you correctly, you believe it should be done, but is not a have to; to take part in the kingdom. . .correct?

Hello Jacob

My understanding of water baptism is that it must (not should be)be done to enter the kingdom.

I am afraid it is you who needs to study Who the Holy Spirit is. He was given to all who believe in Christ Jesus and accepted His salvation, for upon salvation we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. He, the Holy Spirit creates in us a new person and renews our minds. He gives us gifts to do His ministry. He teaches us in all truth. Through His Spirit in us, we have His fruit,

Perhaps, you are missing His teachings because you do not believe in Him?

But I do believe in Him, with all my heart. I believe what He said as well, not my feelings.

Ephesians 4:5 (NIV)

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

And you say that one baptism is water baptism?

The guy who invented water baptism, John the Baptist said in contrast to water baptism...

Matthew 3:11 (NIV)

11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Mark 1:8 (NIV)

8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Luke 3:16 (NIV)

16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Acts 11:16 (NIV)

16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Do you still believe that one baptism is water baptism, Webb?

Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the indwelling / salvation of believers in Christ Jesus and that earnest seal of eternal life to come.

Baptism with fire is the judgment of all who do not believe in Christ Jesus (John 3:16-18).

It's either / or.

Currently we attend a Baptist Church (no Calvary Chapels or Messianic Jewish congregations which we prefer are near by where we live).

And even our Baptist preacher does not believe water baptism is essential for anything other than to demonstrate an outward act of obedience to reveal an inward transformation.

Then, why do you ignore the majority of scripture in favor of a few? Try doing a subject study on the Holy Spirit, where He is spoken of in scripture. You will have a better understanding of His ministry then if you just take a few verses and make a doctrine of them.

It would seem to me from what you write, you need to restudy the subject of the Holy Spirit.

regards

If you could/would. . .answer a few things to help better understand you?

1. What denomination do you consider yourself?

2. Do you belive you must be baptized in order to be saved?

Blessings

Hi

I'm not a member of any denomination. The church in the Bible is not a denomination.

I believe the Bible teaches water baptism to be essential to salvation, Mark16:15,16.

God bless

These verses are often used by those who believe that one cannot be saved without being baptized. Since this would take this thread off topic, I suggest you use the search engine and review the past threads on this subject. • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
