Actually the law was never about salvation for it was received after sin had began in all man...

It sole purpose was to educate man in the need of God's Own Son and how He would be in life

so we could recognize Him... He alone was made for the Law to fulfill it as one without sin and trespass!

So it drives me to The Lord Jesus daily as the righteous standard is higher than I can attain to

yet I gain on it in sanctification... as His Righteousness become my own for the wearing not by

deserve but by Grace... Love, Steven

The commandments of Moses were there to prove that man has fallen as compared to them being a guide to righteousness. One had to get all of them correct to be regarded righteous so even if you got 9 and failed one, you'd still be regarded a sinner.

Jesus on the other hand introduces LOVE as the only commandment to righteousness because who steals from someone they love, who kills the ones they love and so on

Unless there was a law, mankind would probably have not woken up to his weaknesses and realised he needed Christ as saviour

I can certainly reinforce that the most important of all Gods laws is to love and forgive the people in our lives and in the world in general. With the love of God in our hearts, we would be following the rest of Gods commandments anyway because they all follow from that one law, as was already mentioned. In essence that makes them no less important or less significant in our walk with Jesus today. As a Christian I do strive to follow Gods law, as a human, I know that I am full of imperfection and need Gods forgiveness when I falter. I am reassured by the knowledge that Through Gods patient love and understanding , and His knowing my heart that I will be forgiven.

Speaking of the 10 Commandments...

I think that first of all that what we need to understand is that the Commandments themselves were given as a sign of the covenant between God and Israel...as a sign that Israel was now a chosen nation under God's own law and rule, set apart from all the gentile nations. In fact, the tablets were carried in "The Ark of The Covenant".

As such they were never binding upon the gentile nations, and it is also of note that they carry no penalty for disobedience.

Every one of the commandments is repeated in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, this time carrying a penalty in the manner of a penal code setting forth the law by which God's people Israel would live.

As has been mentioned, the law was our tutor to bring us to the knowledge that we need a savior, Jesus Christ.

That is not to say that the 10 Commandments aren't a wonderful guide to live by...for most certainly they are...but yet having been set free from the law (the entire body of the law) the 10 Commandments are not binding upon the Christian.

Now the question always seems to arise: "Well, if we don't have to keep the 10 Commandments, we can do anything we want...right?" The answer of course is a resounding "no".

We have entered into a New Covenant by the precious blood of Christ, wherein God's laws are written upon our hearts by the Holy Spirit...and if we think about it, Christ "raised the bar" in every case.

Under OT law, adultery for example was a physical act. But Jesus told us that if we look upon a woman to lust after her..we've already committed adultery in our heart. Under OT law murder was once again a physical act. But again Jesus tells us murder proceeds from the heart.

The other thing ("raising the bar") was that OT law could be simply a matter of rote. Indeed, somewhere along the line the various religious leaders lost sight of the fact that righteousness is imputed by faith (Hebrews 11 et.al), to the point that by Jesus' time the Mishnah had whole chapters on how to ceremonially wash dishes so that they would be "clean"!

But yet Jesus told us:

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matt 22:37-40 Nothing rote about this!

So then, in my opinion the OT laws (to include the 10 Commandments) are not binding upon the Christian, because we have entered into a new and better covenant; and one which has superseded the covenant of law given on Sinai.

Yes brother I agree.

The issue isn't God didn't keep His promises in the Mosaic Covenant, the Law, and the 10 Commandments. The issue was always Israel (and more importantly all of humanity) couldn't keep her end of the agreement.

Jeremiah 31:31-34

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Hebrews 8:13

In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 12:24

And to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Thanks...I am looking for discussion on them...when I was going over them again, I was thinking about how Gods commandments would make life on earth (the way He originally intended) so simple and peaceful. As a Christian, what do you find the hardest ones to keep?

Again as some have implied...in Christ the 10 thou shalt nots become the 2 thou shalts, and these take nothing away from the 10 thou shalt nots but rather fulfill what they intend....I broke all 10 in times pas,t but break none of them now as defined and fulfilled by Christ, as they are written on my heart....I live them and their author IS my life (my old man being dead in tresspasses and sins)...and the life I live I live by the Faith OF the Son of God who was obedient unto death and fulfilled ALL that was ever commanded (I am now IN HIM)...I pray the same for you

In His love

Brother Paul

Love your comment and perspective on this brother.

The 10 Commandments are to be follwed by Christians.

With the Holy Spirit as a teacher and guide, as it is said above, the two commandments Jesus spoke of encompasses the original 10 Commandments, and more.

Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Do you follow the fourth as it is given to Moses?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
