ISV - International Standard Version

Anyone heard of the ISV? I found it on thenobleheart.com and looked it up. I could find their page on Facebook and their website is down. Interesting.

No I haven't. I don't keep up much with the translations anymore, I tend to prefer the KJV or the NASB myself, good solid literal reading, though if your looking for one thats easier to read, from my studying the ESV (english standard version) seems to be pretty solid and easier to read.

They get into gender neutral stuff which I disagree with.

I found these criticisms online:

In Psalm 2 and Acts 13:33 God says and ALL GREEK TEXTS read: "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus AGAIN: as it is also written in the second Psalm, Thou art my Son, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE". This is the reading found in the RV, ASV, RSV, NRSV, ESV, NASB, NKJV. The specific Day that Christ was begotten from the dead was that first Easter morning. However the NIV, and now the new ISV (International Standard Version) and the upcoming Holman Christian Standard Version actually say "Today I HAVE BECOME YOUR FATHER"!!!

The NIV, ISV, and Holman version here teach that there was a time when God was not the Father of Christ. This is also the reading of the Jehovah witness version, the New World translation, and they use this verse and Micah 5:2, which also reads the same in their version as does the NIV, to prove that Jesus Christ is a created being and not from everlasting.

In I John 5:19 the King James Bible along with the Tyndale 1525, Bishop's Bible 1568, the Geneva Bible 1599, Young's, Lamsa's translation of the Peshitta, Webster's 1833 translation, the Douay-Rheims 1950, the KJV 21st Century version, Green's literal translation and Green's Modern KJV, and the Third Millenium Bible all say: "And we know that we are of God, and THE WHOLE WORLD LIETH IN WICKEDNESS."

ISV (International Standard Version) "the whole world lies under the control of the evil one."

Our only hope of righteousness before God is to be clothed with the imputed righteousness of Christ. Revelation 19:8 speaks of the church of God, the wife of the Lamb being arrayed in fine linen, clean and white. "for the FINE LINEN IS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF SAINTS."

Versions that read like the King James Bible are Tyndale's New Testament of 1534, Miles Coverdale 1535, Bishop's Bible 1568, the Geneva Bible of 1599, John Wesley's 1755 translation, Green�s interlinear, Webster's translation of 1833, the Spanish Reina Valera of 1909, the Bible in Basic English 1970, Lamsa's translation of the Syriac Peshitta, the Third Millenium Bible, the 21st Century KJV, and even the modern paraphrase called The Message.

But the NKJV, NASB, ESV, ISV, Holman Christian Standard Bible, and the NIV have, �the fine linen is the RIGHTEOUS ACTS of the saints.� (or "the righteous deeds of God's people") If our righteous acts are going to make up our wedding dress, it will be pretty soiled and tattered.

Bottom line for me, how many translations do we really need? I use a few as it is and do not see the need for more. Its just a gimmick to sell bibles I think.

Having said that, Im on the lookout for a bible translation I heard about that may enhance my studying. So I guess I may need one more translation lol. Problem is, I can only order it sight unseen. I dislike doing that.

To a point I agree jade, to many translations can cause confusion, with that being said, I often like to compare translations side by side, studying them as well as having a english/greek/hebrew guide nearby to. Makes for some really solid research

I prefer a version that has words added for clarification to be put in italics. KJV, NKJV and NASV do this. I am unaware of any others. This is the first thing I look for.

I also look for versions that include verses such as the last of Mark as part of the original text. They were included in the earliest letters of the Apostalic fathers as well as the Gospel of Mark found among the dead sea scrolls which dated to before 50 AD.. I am suspicious of any bible that casts doubt on God's word. As far as I know only one verse in the book of 1 John and the last of the Lord's Prayer are suspect as not being in the original text. Most are proven to be in much earlier papyrii than the "earliest manuscripts".

I use nothing but the original King James Version Bible. If I had to use a new translation, it would have to come from the Textus Receptus.

I agree that we now have too many modern English translations. I have one of the original NIV Bibles from the 70's and added words are Italicized. The only thing I don't like is the words of Jesus are not in red. I also have a NKJV.

Maybe these new translations are to make money selling Bibles. I can't say that's not 1 motivation. But with what's now going on, I'm afraid these new modern English translations are meant to change things. And if that hasn't happened yet, I'm sure it soon will.

This ISV is not a good translation if it is gender neutral.

I personally enjoy the NKJV and NASB. However, I've been reading the ESV a lot lately too.
