Need your help - I got angry!

I've come to discover this problem here on the Forums - communication here has no body language. Thus, we often mistake what a person actually means.

 

Also, it is so easy for us to responding to words and thoughts while forgetting we are actually responding to a person.

 

I bet pretty much all of us (who've been posting for a while) have at times responded out of quick emotion rather than sat back and sought the Lord on how to respond in grace and love.

 

 

Sometimes the best you can do is thank the Lord for the lesson and keep seeking Him on how to work on respond more often in the spirit of grace.

You could not speak long of Muhammad without being somewhat critical. Trying to find something nice to say about a child molesting mass murderer is difficult. I understand he had beautiful teeth.......

Don't be so hard on yourself for getting angry. As humans we all get that way at times.

Even Jesus got angry. His anger, though, was righteous anger, directed at those who He felt were on a power trip and kept people away from God because they were so hung up on following the old law to the letter.

 

Matthew 21

 

12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

13  “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’ "

 

Matthew 23

Mark 3:

1 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.

2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.

3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

Jesus was angry at times, yet did not sin (Hebrews 4:15). Likewise, believers in Christ are taught, "Be angry and do not sin" (Ephesians 4:26). While anger is often viewed as a completely negative emotion, there are times a person can be angry for appropriate reasons. In the case of Jesus, His anger was the result of ungodly attitudes and actions by those around Him. In addition, God the Father often displayed anger in the Old Testament when people sinned against Him and when injustices took place in the world. Still today, when Christians see sinful actions taking place, especially by those who claim to be religious leaders, it should cause anger. Why? Because such anger reflects the attitude of Christ in these situations (Philippians 2:5).

Anger that reflects the anger of Christ requires two aspects. First, it must be properly motivated. In other words, anger because you do not get your way in a situation does not count. Religious hypocrisy or injustices of poverty or oppression are proper, godly reasons to become angry.

The second aspect required for our anger to reflect Christ's anger is to act appropriately when we are angry. Jesus healed a man even when He was angry, revealing that we are called to do good even when we are upset. In addition, the passages referring to Jesus turning over tables in the temple showed His anger properly expressed to remove people who were breaking God's Law by making a profit from the system of animal offerings rather than focusing on worship of the Lord.

Further, the anger of Jesus did not result in a long-term grudge. Instead, His anger was an emotion that resulted in proper actions. Today's believers must seek the same response. Anger left unchecked or wrongly motivated can result in long-term unforgiveness that causes problems in a believer's own life.

In summary, Jesus did become angry on some occasions, yet He was not known as an angry person. Further, His anger was not an excuse for sinful actions, but rather for positive actions that helped others and honored God.

The Bible also says

Genesis 1:27

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

We were not created as a physical image of God. We were given his attributes-love, wisdom, etc. One of those was anger, which God did show on occassion. But again, His anger is different from the anger we can sometimes have and which He knows we will engage in.

Where we as humans struggle is most often our anger is not for a positive action and it does not help others and honor God.

So you got angry. Ask yourself if your anger helped others and/or honored God. Did it result in a positive action?

I've just got angry and I don't just speak in anger, I type in anger sometimes, which is a weakness, I know.

I have just been on Facebook and became angry because a lot of people were making fun of the 'hacking' terrorist attack in London. They didn't seem to care much about the fact that a noble soldier had been brutally murdered - they were more concerned about protecting Islam, and more critical of Christianity, claiming that Christians were the real terrorists. I tried to explain to them about the differences between the Bible and the Koran. They just mocked me. I tried to explain about God, but although my arguments were sound, I was subjected to more and more torrents of abuse. I became angry and asked people if they had actually read the Bible or the Koran, and not just assumed that they knew what was writen.

But, in my anger I accused someone of being a moral coward, a traitor and an imbecile. I've lost a lot of friends now, I know that, but I fear that I may now be a victim of Islamic anger. There are many Muslims in my circle of friends, even though they were not on my friends' list. They commented too, I'm sure. I mentioned the crimes of Islam. I mentioned Mohammed in a critical way.

People have been arrested for criticising Islam on Facebook. I'm still worried about this. At the time, I couldn't help myself.

Jesus was beside himself when He found them selling in the church. You are a human being. Great news, Jesus forgives you, well, everyone else also. Tell it Jesus!
