Actually the test really is...... Would we give up everything to follow Him even if He did not call at our door in person....

That to me is the true test of faith.

Howe many have done so?

Hello Fez,

Does Jesus request every Christian to give up everything to follow Him and if so what does giving up everything look like ?

To me it means being perfect in his eyes. We are taught to strive for this. And I think it means giving up everything worldly, everything that stands in the way of the open heaven we live under. (which includes our thoughts, our deeds that are not Christ like and our wants, but excludes our needs)

What does take up your cross mean to you?

Ok. I currently enjoy many things  that are above my needs. Is this wrong ?

Taking up my Cross implies suffering for Christ. It means I must endure the hardships and trials which come because of the world hating Christ and therefor me. I must endure these hardships by exhibiting support for my Lord and walking into His ways.

Well a good indicator would be... what have you given up of your pleasure now in order to serve Him?

Of the things I used to do that I felt were inappropriate with my Walk with God 100%.I feel the sacrifice is well worth the benefits. :mgcheerful:

We can never be perfect while we are on this earth and are human no matter how hard we try.

The Bible teaches us while we are in the flesh we will always struggle with a sin nature.

Romans 7:14-24

14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

No one will be perfect until we reach heaven.

Paul prays that we would "Stand perfect and complete in all the will of God".In the verse the word perfect is translated as "full grown" not perfect.

True perfectionism will not come until the Rapture of the Church

1Thessalonians 4:17

17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

A Spiritual sense of value that exceeds all known parameters here... formed purely from hope shaped from His Word!

I do not know the fullness now but I sure am excited to know it will be more than I can hope or dream... weeping seems

always the expressed reality of the magnitude of His Presence (Nearness).  Love, Steven

This is very interesting to think about. Times are different then what they were when Jesus was here on earth. To be honest I am not sure that in our modern society if it would be truly posable to give up everything and walk away from it all to follow Jesus. I am guessing that when you say "leave everything" you do mean "everything" Your house, your children. your wife, your family. Your job, and all the money you have to your name ect ect. Oh and your car too if you have one. It may have been easier to do these things back in the time of Jesus. The rules and laws of our society  have changed. Now days if say your a man, a husband , father. And you deiced to leave your wife and children to follow Jesus, you can and most likely would be sued for abandoning your wife and children. You would be hunted down and order to pay child support for the children you left behind. If you did not get a job and pay your child support, you will be thrown into prison. Since you have given up everything I guess this would leave you homeless. In some cities it is actually illegal to be homeless. Homeless people  are rounded up and tossed into city jails. For the crime of being homeless and asking for money from strangers on the street so they can buy a sandwich. Also, people who work and have homes and what not. Think of people who are not working and living off the kindness of others. ( Which I guess you would have to do since you would have no money for food and everyone has to eat.) Anyway they think of them as a drain on society and living off of the work that other people do. The Christians of the early church if I remeber what my Bible said, I beleve that they worked and had money. Since Paul instructed them on givening money to the church and caring for people in need. So it seems to me that they didn't give up everything. So how do you care for others if you have no means to care for yourself? Caring for others is one of the main teachings of Christ. Anyway I kind of went off on my own here and I'm sorry about that.

Has anyone know anyone who has actuly given up "Everything" to follow Jesus? If so what is it that this person does for Christ?

Some Christians "give up everything" and band together in communities where there is no personal ownership of things (cars, houses, furniture, etc.), and where they pool all of their income.

That sounds like the Amish :mgcheerful:

There are many modern Christian communities around the world.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
