Covenant of Salt?

So does anyone understand why God refers to a sure Covenant as a Covenant of Salt?  Something like what He refers to when He speaks of His Covenant with David in II Chronicles 13:5, two other places it is refer to is in Leviticus 2:13 and also Numbers 18:19.

i think it is in reference to how David sought God and his ways. Salt is a preservative

Salt was a symbol of purity. Salt preserves unchanging. I believe it's reference is in regards to preserving the truth and purity of God's word.

In the NT as in a seasoning we must not lose our savor for Christ and His work by dilution of the truth

The word salary comes from the Latin root salaris, or salt. Soldiers were paid with salt at times. Hence the saying "He's worth his salt (or salary)

Salt was a very big deal then. It was expensive and traveled miles by salt caravans across the Sahara to the Mediterranean. To work in a Roman salt mine was a death sentence for most.

The Salt Covenant:

The Ancient Hebrew Covenant that Holds the Key to The Next Great Awakening

The Salt Covenant is an ancient Hebrew Levitical covenant found by name in the Bible three times (Lev. 2:13, Num. 18:19, 2 Chr. 13:5) and alluded to throughout both the Old and New Testaments. This covenant has often been confused or mistaken with a Middle East loyalty pact also called the Salt Covenant. However, the Levitical Salt Covenant in the scripture has nothing to do with wedding ceremonies, loyalty partnerships, or friendship covenants.The biblical Salt Covenant is so powerful that when Abijah the King of Judah with four hundred thousand men faced Jeroboam King of Israel with eight hundred thousand men, he said these words before they engaged in war: “Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt.” (2 Chronicles 13:5) Can you imagine standing before an army twice the size of your army and warning them that they ought to consider before attackingus that we are in the Covenant of Salt! This was the mother of all Jewish civil battles in Israel’s entire history. One million two hundred thousand Jews on the battle field ready to engage in battle and Abijah preaches about the Salt Covenant. What happened next proves the power of this covenant. Jeroboam rejected the warning and attacked Abijah’s army. Five hundred thousand of Jeroboam’s men died—the largest slaughter of mankind ever to occur in one day in all of history, even to this very day. Consider the power of this covenant, and consider an army of royal priesthood, New Testament, spirit-filled believers walking in the power of this Salt Covenant!

 

We are watching our nation implode morally right before our eyes! We are in the mother of all spiritual battles! We are following the same pattern as ancient Israel by rejecting warning after warning! We must have a move of God. We must enter into intense covenant power with God. This is the time for all New Testament believers to grasp the revelation of the Salt Covenant and walk in it! What is pictured in the Old Testament is produced in the New Testament.

 

The first mention of the Salt Covenant is in Leviticus 2:13 and establishes a very powerful biblical truth—every sacrifice must have salt on it. Jesus confirmed this in Mark 9:49b, “And every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.” Actually,Jesus is quoting Leviticus 2:13b, “With all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.” In Mark 9:50 Jesus confirms that salt is the type of personal holiness, “Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”  All through the scriptures we find salt to be, not just a type, but the true type of personal holiness. There has never been a genuine move of God, (although they may not have known to call it the Salt Covenant) that did not include the salt of personal holiness; nor will there ever be. However, the Salt Covenant does not just include salt. There must be a sacrifice for the salt to go on. A common offering in the Old Testament was bread. This is why Jesus said He was the bread (John 6:47). Jesus is the one and only sacrifice for sin. His blood alone provides imputed righteousness for those who receive Him (John 1:12). We are not the bread and never can be. Jesus said we are the salt (Matthew 5:13).

 

Our personal holiness has absolutely no atonement in it whatsoever.  We are supposed to be the salt, not bread. The problem is that many want to try to turn their salt (personal holiness) into bread (imputed holiness) by trusting in their salt for either full atonement or a portion of it. On the other hand, many want to only speak of the bread. Walking in the Covenant of Salt is the perfect balance connecting the imputed righteousness of God and the personal righteousness that every recipient of grace has the privilege and duty to walk in. Walking in the Salt Covenant will keep you from the horrible death of self righteous legalism and religious bondage. It will also keep you from the ineffective life which is the result of no salt.

 

The Pharisees that Jesus scathed for their religious bigotry is an example of salt with no bread. Lot in Sodom is an example of bread with no salt. Lot was justified and even called “just Lot” (2 Peter 2:7). Lot had no testimony or effectiveness, even with his own children. His fruitless ineffective life is forever a testimony of the travesty of bread with no salt on it. God even turned Lot’s wife into what she refused to be and what could have spared the city, salt! Jesus reminded us of it with one short but commanding statement in Luke 17:32, “Remember Lot's wife.” We must remember Lot’s wife, for we as a nation are fast becoming a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah! Every truly justified saint (bread recipient) needs to be the salt of the earth! The most commonly used revival verse has the Salt Covenant in it. 2Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name(bread), shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways (salt), then will I hear from heaven (when the bread has salt on it), and will forgive their sin (when His own people repent) and will heal their land(revival that becomes a reformation). Paul said in Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God(bread) that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice (not a sin offering but a burnt offering), holy, acceptable unto God(salt) which is your reasonable service.” Why should we ever think to offer Him anything less, less than “Walking in the Covenant of Salt!”

This was very interesting because I have never heard about the covenant of salt before so I too learned something.  It is for sure that Jesus is our salt, for it is IN HIM that we are kept and preserved as we shall not perish but have everlasting life.
