The hazardous body fluids part was not addressed. HIV can be found in breast milk. When I see someone nursing, I find it as repulsive as if I found a used condom. Because I know what can be in that.

On a medical side too, body fluids are considered hazardous and treated as such. Breast milk is considered body fluids and hazardous. Not "not permitted on airplanes" hazardous lol. Folks should not have to be exposed to breast feeding in public. Its not what I want to see.

I believe the CDC (Center Disease Control) doesn't consider breast milk body fluids. Is this true? Regarding it being body fluids are you comparing breast milk to defecation, urination, or sex? Curious. :noidea:

Is milk considered a food? Or is it considered waste or biohazard? Is breast milk potentially dangerous and should be disposed of carefully for safety reasons?

God bless,

GE

While breastmilk can carry HIV and hepatitis if the mother is infected, breastfeeding in public does not carry an increased risk of spread of the disease and the CDC even cites that a bottle of infected milk given on accident to the wrong baby is unlikely to lead to transmission of the disease in a healthy infant.

Breastfeeding a human infant is encouraged by recognized health organizations globally.

COVER UP!

Why? Do you find breastfeeding to be a sexual or functional act?

it is a natural act that can cause many to stumble

why make it harder than it has to be for people not to see what tempts them?

if you love your brothers and their relationship with God, cover :)

My husband asked me to cover. Even though its natural, he still doesnt want other men to see my chest.

Personally I have an issue with this mentality. It seems to me that the breast has been over-sensualized. It seems to me that people and particularly males are unaware what the primary purpose of the breast is to be. I find it very strange that a nursing mother would tempt a fellow brother in Christ.

Have you ever heard of porn?

Seriously? Wow. That's kind of messed up.

Breastfeeding in public is based on a mother responding to the need of her child for nourishment or comfort. A small infant or child’s hunger can not be postponed.

Breastfeeding is not a sex act, it is an act of nourishment and comfort for a child.

To equate breastfeeding with porn is... wrong. Sorry.

God bless,

GE

If its about the baby then it would be ok for a woman to change a babies poopy diaper on a restaurant table.

Which it isnt.

I find it appalling to see breastfeeding in public. It isnt acceptable to me. So perhaps others should understand that it does offend some folks and attempt to consider their feelings on this instead of insisting everyone welcome their bare breasts in public.

AJ, in all seriousness did you just equate breastfeeding with diaper changing (defecation) and the use of condoms (sex)?

Wow sister. Wow.

Again breastfeeding in public is based on a mother responding to the need of her child for nourishment or comfort. A small infant or child’s hunger can not be postponed.

Again breastfeeding is not a sex act, it is an act of nourishment and comfort for a child.

CDC guidelines does say that folks exposed to breastmilk should use latex gloves and universal precautions.

Issues not addressed...

A. Are you seriously comparing breastfeeding with defecation, urination, and sex?

B. Does CDC consider breast milk body fluids?

C. Is breast milk considered waste or bio hazard? Or is it considered food?

I'm genuinely interested.

God bless,

If a man becomes lustful after a breastfeeding woman - he's got a problem.

Depending on the degree of lust, he might not be the only one with a problem.

I am not understanding what point you are arguing here. Please clarify.

I'm sure I am going to hear it for this, but I think a woman Breastfeeding in public without a cover is no different than if a woman was to just walk around topless. Like it or not, the breasts of a woman have been turned into and used as sex objects by almost every form of media there is. When a woman's breast's are brought up, most people think of sex. Is that fair? No. Is it even biblical? No. Consider the verse below in regards to a Christian woman's responsibility on this subject.

1 Corinthians 9:21-22

To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.

Also please consider this.

Titus 1:15

To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

Most people, especially those who are not saved do not see the breasts as a beautiful thing that gives life and nurturing to a child. It's about sex. Sad but true.

Here's another take on the issue:

Dozens of mothers stage breastfeeding 'nurse-in' at Chick-fil-A

By: Kyle Warnke Email

Updated: Thu 12:55 PM, Aug 08, 2013

<snip>

"We're not doing it to get attention. I've never heard of a mom breastfeeding her baby in public so that men can see her boobs," Hurley explained.

Kara Lockmiller agreed.

"I think there will always be people in the community that sexualize breasts. But women who breastfeed, we don't see our breasts as...a sex object," Lockmiller said.

Several of the mothers agreed that breastfeeding without covering up is not something done to attract anyone's attention. Some said their child prefers not being covered up. Others, like Bri Plott, said it was quicker and easier and more convenient.

"If your child is hungry, you have to feed him. And it's not always opportune to get a cover or go somewhere else," Plott said.

Still others argued that breastfeeding in a bathroom is just too dirty.
