My husband and I have been in Florida for a LONG....time. Bill's been here for 21 years and this is my native state.

Frankly, after 3 hurricanes last year, we are FRIED! You cannot even imagine the stress of ONE hurricane...let alone TWO..but 3 did us in.

Not many of you know how WIPED OUT I am after that...the stress is something you really DON'T hear about on the news.

Until it hits YOUR state, you just can't imagine how hard it is.

There's so much debris from the hurricane, they burn the mulch from trees at NIGHT and it sets off our FIRE ALARM AT NIGHT....!!!!

Mulched trees that uprooted during the hurricanes are torched and we suffer.

We look like a real WAR ZONE....and it's cost us healthy air and gagging on smoke trying to clean up the debris.

We're tired...of living in hurricane alley.

So, hubby and I are wanting to move to a HIGH altitude (7,000 ft above sea level) yet not too cold.

Colorado is OUT. Too cold. New Mexico has a great VA Clinic and lots of great history and dessert. No mowing lawns...(YAY).

Santa Fe looks like pricey real estate. Maybe Albuquerque.

Any feedback from ANYBODY????

Hey Cat's! Santa Fe is pricey! It is very beautiful there though.

I think viewing Albequerque from the mountains at night is one of the most beautiful sights in the whole world! To me it is a very nice area, although I like Denver better. Albuquerque is much smaller than Denver, and the Winter climate is a little milder.

Have you considered Prescott, Arizona? Or some lower elevation and more southerly portions of Colorado. Also Roswell, New Mexico is really nice, and real estate is cheaper, and who knows, maybe you'll make friends with a Martian or two!

Praying for you guys.

Leonard

Hey, brother Leonard...

We're looking for a high elevation because we want very dry air due to my arthritis.

The humidity leaves me stiff as a board. Florida is warm, which I love...but it's sadly very humid, which is problematic.

I heard Santa Fe is pricey. If Albuquerque is cheaper, that'd be the ticket.

We're thinking that might be the way...since there's a VA hospital there.

We don't want a real big city...we're sick of traffic and congestion. Florida is becoming like an ant colony.

We'd like to get away from the noise, pollution and humidity...but I can't tolerate real cold weather. I need a climate ideal for people with arthritis.

Arizona is "snake city" and hot as blazes in the warmer months...

I spent a week in northern NM as part of a college cross-cultural trip to the Navajo Nation.

There is a lot of beauty there!

I advise two things, though:

Hats and sunglasses!

The air there is very clear - so clear that the Sun is much, much brighter (ever "see" the Sun look white?).

ANother thing, if you go to Albuquerque, don't forget to take the left turn! :24:

I was just recently in New Mexico, and it was different... but I wouldn't want to live there. I didn't think it was all that pretty. We drove through Arizona though. My Husband lived in Prescott, Arizona, and it was GORGEOUS!!!! Everywhere in Arizona we went it was WONDERFUL, and the altitude is quite high in Prescott. VERY dry. New Mexico was very... BLAH to me, my husband, and my father(who came on our road trip with us. We moved to WA. State)

Good luck with your move :24:

PS. we lived in Florida all summer and was there through the Hurricanes. On top of the fact I HATED Florida anyways... THAT made it worse.

Nick's Girl, I LIVE in Prescott, AZ!!! Wow, wonder if i'd know your husband or his family. I've lived here since I was 4.

Catsmeow, I love it here. It's not too hot or too cold, and we get all 4 seasons and have a dry climate. But real estate is so pricey, and wages are not comparable. They consider it a 'retirement' place. We are growing by leaps and bounds so that might help, and they DO have a VAMC in town.

My sister and best friend live in Albuquerque. My sister has been there about 4 years now and loves it. She moved there, as she found that weather-wise it was very similar to Prescott, yet she could get work there that fit her field. She just picked it by random act, and has been so thankful it's where the Lord led her.

If you want more info on either, let me know.

Best wishes on your search.

Donna

I live here in Albuquerque. I was born here, moved to Chama, then Dulce, back to Albuquerque, then to York, NE, and then down to Abilene,TX, and then to Ft. Worth, TX.

Now I'm back in ABQ :) Seems I just can't stay away.

Abq is beautiful. It has less humidity than Texas, and so definitely Florida. You can walk the trails on the mountain, in the valley, or go the west side's desert.

As far as traffic? Well, we do have ours. I-25 (which runs N-S) get's pretty clogged at rush hour. I-40 (E-W) is pretty nice, and only stops when there's a wreck. :24: Er, btw, New Mexico drivers aren't all that great. We have lots of uninsured motorists, so be sure to get protection.

Pollution isn't bad, but people complain.

The balloon fiesta is held here every year. I don't know if you've seen this. It is a common site to see one or two in the sky every weekend, but in October, we have hundreds and hundreds from all over the world.

Something to consider would be the economy. I don't know what y'all do for a living (I still say "y'all" even though I'm not in TX) The cost of living in ABQ is high, while the income is low. This makes it hard. But, well I'm poor, but I'm not starving. We do have some rich people here. We are just a poor state.

Nick's girl mentioned Prescott. I've visited there twice, and it is beautiful also. I don't know anything about the city though, except that downtown get's jammed everyday.

About the VA hospital... When my grandparents first moved here (before I was born) they had gone there for healthcare. Gpa was WW2 vet. They had to find an alternative hospital because they said they could never get helped there. It was packed with people always, and had to wait hours and hours just to get checked by a nurse. I don't know if it is still this way.

Catsmeow, we have vacationed just north of the border (camped out and fished) and that area is really pretty.

We have driven through the Albuquerque and it is pretty around there. The climate was easy on my allergies and asthma also.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
