Funny, as I was reading through this thread, I was reminded of "Soap Song" by Carman.

Hahaha...that song brought back memories...gosh, when I was a kid my mom used to watch young and restless every day.  One day when I was about 8 years old me and my cousin decided  to play a game and pretend we were Nikki the stripper...boy did we get in trouble for that one. The funny thing is that our television in our home was extremely monitored.  We were not allowed to watch very much.  No smurfs because of gargamel...is one that sticks in my memory...there were many others, yet we saw young and restless every day!  Thanks for the memory and the chuckle Nebula.  Ahhh, life in the preachers house, LOL!  And how parents sometimes miss the most obvious while trying thier best to protect from other things.

Would Jesus be just as thrilled about the entertainment as you are if he was sitting there on the sofa with you?

I hope no one takes offensive to this but I have never been able to understand the "what would Jesus watch on tv or what music would Jesus listen too."  Maybe it is just me, but I can not see Jesus watching tv or listing to music. I can only see Jesus being Jesus. Caring for the sick, and teaching. I can not see Jesus having any free time at all. He did go to a wedding though and turn the water into wine.

I have always thought the old saying of "WWJD" Or what would Jesus do is not very realistic.Of course we would not do the same as Jesus because He is Jesus it is an unrealistic comparison.

Well in my house growing up we were to strive to be more like Jesus. Period.  And Jesus was watching every single thing we did...but Dad's wrath was very real if we were not striving to be more like Jesus.  So to me, it is a very realistic comparison

I just cant see Jesus doing anything for entertainment. But I am sure he must of done something for entertainment. I mean he was human and we humans need to find entertainment sometimes to relax after work. But I just cant wrap my head around it. Kind of like the question "what kind of car would Jesus drive?" I don't know? Maybe he would walk everywhere? Does that mean we should walk everywhere and not drive? Should we all remain unmarried because that is what Jesus did? Okay this is going off topic so I will stop now.

LoL...I hear you.  You're right, in many ways it is unrealistic.  But is does help us in keeping in mind things that He definitely would not do, or not be pleased with

The problem I have with "what would Jesus do" type questions is that typically people just project their own biases onto what Jesus would hate so it doesn't do much for me. "Well Jesus wouldn't like that song so you shouldn't listen to it" type of thing. Unless it's obviously blasphemous or something it's not a very helpful consideration.

I suppose what it comes down to for me is, a lot of people seem to conflate being a Christian with having certain popular culture tastes, and I just don't go that way. If it's a matter in which it is clearly sinful, someone should be able to show me that from scripture. Short of it being universally sinful such that it can be shown scripturally, perhaps God will convict me of certain things I enjoy. I can certainly see that happening.Otherwise, a lot of this sounds like a lot of 'holier than thou' type of language based in personal tastes and biases.

Well I am back on topic here. The only tv show that I recently remember feeling like God was trying to tell me I shouldn't be watching this was a reality tv show that I liked very much. The thing was was that like all reality tv shows it was high drama. I would become upset at some of the people on this show and would  start yell at them on the tv LOL! I think the reason why God was maybe trying to tell me I shouldn't watch this show was not so much about what the show was about. (it really wasn't about anything sinful just a contest between teams of people) but because of the way I acted towards some of the people on the show. Here I was forming hatred towards some people whom I only know through a tv show. And that I think was the sin. Not the show itself but the way I acted when it was on.

I am very embarrassed by this

That is very very rough.

I do not like the term 'What would Jesus do'. First off, Jesus was Jewish and ate only Kosher food. No pork. So, if we only do what Jesus did, no pork, no catfish, no lobster or shrimp, etc.

Second, Jesus told us what He did 'spiritually'. Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing.

That's pretty interesting lol.. honestly the things I have been convicted about media wise have been for reasons that seem similar to what you're describing.. hard to explain, but I can think of one thing in particular which I have to imagine for most people is not a problem but for me I had a reaction to which was problematic.

Where did you get the article?  Do you have a link please?

IMO, the Christians of 2000 years ago also lived in a world of moral decline, in my guess, as tempting and evil as today's world for the climate which spawned it.

Link?

Please see post #8 above.

I state I saw it in my post.  Above.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
