Gods wrath poured out on Jesus while on the cross??

I was listening to podcast today and a baptist gentlemen made the following comment:

"Christ was the sinless perfect son of God, he was falsely accused, rejected by his own people, he was beaten and spat upon and was nailed to a cross and than the appropriate measure of Gods Wrath from Heaven that Christ didn't deserve, he allowed that to be put on him"

I have never heard of Gods wrath being put on Jesus while in the cross!! Now admittedly I am not baptist so this might be a baptist thing.

Has anyone heard of this and where does this come from?

Thanks in advance

Judgment or hatred of sin would be better words, I suppose.  I have caught myself using the word wrath.   If we want to know how much God hates sin, all we need to do is look at the cross.

God turned His back on sin, which Christ bore for us.  That is why Jesus cried:

Matthew 27:46

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Mark 15:34

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

His wrath was not on Jesus. I never found that in scripture. IF ti is there, I missed it every time I read His word.

No it has nothing to do with baptists but just plain scripture by itself, here are some scriptures that talks about a cup and what it references to

Jeremiah 25:15-17

For thus the LORD, the God of Israel, says to me, "Take this cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. "They will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them." Then I took the cup from the LORD'S hand and made all the nations to whom the LORD sent me drink it

Psalms 75:8

For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs.

Revelation 14:10

he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

Jeremiah 49:12

For thus says the LORD, "Behold, those who were not sentenced to drink the cup will certainly drink it, and are you the one who will be completely acquitted? You will not be acquitted, but you will certainly drink it.

Revelation 16:19

The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath

Matthew 26:39, 42

"Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done."

John 18:11

"So Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"

1 Thessalonians 1:10

and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come."

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

"For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, . . . "

So because Jesus drank the cup of God's wrath they are saved from the wrath to come upon them who don't trust in the one time sin atonement of his sacrifice. In which Christ bore the wrath of sin which can't be described in detail of the weight of what that entails, but we have a verse that says he who knew no sin became sin, and that's all I can say to describe it. Christ only died once and now he sits in heaven and lives forevermore. There is no more sacrifice to satisfy the justice of God for the sins committed against Him. As Christ said on the cross: It is finished.

Might hear anything from the Baptist. Judgment for the worlds sins was placed upon His only son and He turned away. Because God hates sin, but loves the sinner. At that moment Jesus became the sin. But Hallelujah!!God had a plan for us all! Thank you Jesus. As usual Shiloh said it best.

I'm not Protesant so the language used ( wrath of God) kinda took me back a little.

Well wrath is usually used for God's judgment of the world, but we often use it as a word to describe God's hatred of sin.  It has nothing to do with being protestant.  It has to do with the fact that Jesus bore the full death penalty for our sin.  All of God's justice against our sin had to be satisfied and Jesus absorbed the full punishment for sin and bore it away on our behalf.   So in one sense, you could say that Jesus took God's wrath, but judgment really is a better term.

It's not about being protestant either, so you shouldn't just assume that it's because of that. The words "wrath of God" are not words used by certain groups of people but what the bible clearly says in and of itself.

You have to think of it like this: God didn't intend for the Jews to create sects and call themselves Pharisees nor sadducees, nor did he intend for men to call themselves Catholic nor eastern orthodox, Anglican nor protestant.

The verses I quoted that mentions the three words "wrath of God" has nothing to do with any sect or denomination.

Does that help?

IMO, this is not taught directly in the Bible, but it is indirectly taught.  For Paul writes that we are saved from wrath:

8)  But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9)  Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Romans 5:8-9

From the above verse, we see that we are saved from God's Wrath; if we are saved from God's wrath, it is evident from the above verse that Jesus Christ took God's wrath on Himself, or as Shiloh stated judgment, so that we could be justify by Christ's blood.  Paul even make mention of this later to encourage us:

31)  What shall we said to thee things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32)  He that spared not His Own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:31-32

For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Hebrews 12:3

Because God the Father hates sin so much, He had to have the most excellent sacrifice to do away with our wickedness, and Jesus Christ while taking our sins upon Himself, felt God's Wrath, for the believers shortcomings in the manner of the law, I Thessalonians 5:9.

For the first advent of Christ, He took our sin problem away, so that He took God's wrath for us; but the second advent, He will come with salvation for the believers:

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and to them that look for Him He will appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Hebrews 9:28

But woe, to those who don't know Christ, II Thessalonians 1:7-10

Jesus bore the worlds sin on the cross!

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2

And ALL sin is guaranteed to get gods wrath and judgment!  This is why the news is so good, jesus took it all away!

So of  course Gods wrath was on JESUS himself, as Jesus work was just that, to take the punishment on my behalf

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
