I grew up Southern Baptist, a denomination that came about because white people didn't want black people in their churches back around the time of the American Civil War. As a child I got to see the face of racism in the church when a Girl Scout troop that included black members visited our church for some special event, and certain members raised Cain about having those girls in their church!

So if the Southern Baptist church as a whole is ready to stop excluding non-whites from their church, I'm glad to see it.

Thanks for explaining. I did not understand what they were trying to do. While people from differing backgrounds attending the same church can be a very nice fellowship, at the same time, I understand differing groups of people chosing to worship with those of the same background.

Different cultures are more comfortable in a church of their own culture, music, ettiquete, language expressions, etc. I like Hebraic style music, and really really dislike jazz or blues. I never thought going to a church with different music would bother me, until I went to a church which only played jazz. Their worship with music lasted for 45 minutes, and it was absolutely miserable for me. So much so, that for the first time, I left a church with music being one of the reasons. (My husband said that when the saxophone played, it sounded more like someone was trying to strangle a goose.)

But, if the SBC has a history of racial division, then ending the separatism and setting policies to end separatism, is a good idea.

I don't see the problem in my church. We have white and black members and sing worship songs in English and Zulu (the Zulu is up on the screen and has English  interpretation under it, but we sing in Zulu).

Fez, that sounds very nice. Does everyone in South Africa know Zulu?

I don't know.

Is Jesus white?

I have not seen Him yet but I suspect He is not white. Being where He is from He may be but I think it would be more dark than white.

Do the color of skin have anything to do with anything at all, except that it is something people use to feel superior over another.

blue yellow green  whatever they all are humans who need blood to live and all have eyes to see, noses to smell mouths to speak and eat with etc.

I don't think there should ever have been any kind of segregation in the first place and according to the Word either does it.

To the fellow Cyrus who mentioned the days of Noah, Jesus in context was speaking of Just as the days of Jonah not Noah, easy mistake. :)

was in the belly of the whale for 3 days and nights so shall the Son of man be.

Not really anything to do with the sign of the end it was pertaining to Him being crucified. That will be the sign.

Anyhow I have been in a few of these threads and if this place is just about debating and arguing with each other I don't think it is a place I wish to fellowship in.

Very sad to see this stuff.

God bless you as you continue to seek Him

Jesus mentioned being in the earth as jonah was in the belly of the fish, but He also talked of things being as in the days of noah before God destroyed the earth with a flood.

As for Jesus being white, I highly doubt anyone here thinks He was. We all know He was Jewish. He looked like other Jews from that area. So what lol. Color is meaningless to the Lord.

I believe the Southern Baptists have a racist past. I read that Southern Baptists who kept slaves were not allowed to be missionaries and eventually the northern and southern Baptists separated. I think they are just trying to right some past injustices.

http://www.abc-usa.org/what_we_believe/our-history/

Origins of American Baptist Organization

The issue of slavery reached a peak in 1845 when the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society determined that it could not appoint any candidate for service who held slaves and when the American Baptist Home Mission Society decided separate northern and southern conventions were necessary. The Southern Baptist Convention was formed in response.

Northern Baptists remained organized as a group of societies until 1907, when the Northern Baptist Convention was formed to structure coordination of the societies’ work while maintaining the autonomy of constituent churches.

Hi Ayin,

You in speaking about Jesus heritage missed my point it seems.

Obviously the people who think segregation was right also claim to worship Jesus, who is not white :D

Right the sign of Noah is when the earth is as it was full of all kinds of evils, then Jesus will come back.

I just don't see how segregation and integration should even be an issue let alone a publicized one. Seems sad. Especially when Jesus Himself is not white.

Jews can be white so that comment really doesn't mean anything, but that was my point they think He is white which is oxymoronic in itself, being as you elude to everyone knows he is not. Well. I just said I don't know. So not everyone.

Thanks for the correction I did seem to misunderstand:)

I think it needs bearing out that slavery was not a Baptist thing.   Slavery had nothing to do with being Baptist.  It had to do with being southern.   There were Methodist and Catholic slave owners, as well in the south.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
