Are the unrighteous allowed to preach?

We are all only righteous by the blood of the lamb. Is there any of us without sin? No preacher is perfect, no person perfect, so if you had to be perfect to preach nobody would be available for the job!

Reasoning like that is why we have so many false preachers, my friend.  They hide behind such logic, claiming they are preaching what God has told them to preach to gain popularity, but their words do not line up with His words.  We need to remain as prepared to do the research as those in Berea were, taking what we hear and searching scripture to see if it is true or not.  Sure, people make mistake, but when one deliberately twists scripture to defend their personal beliefs, they become a false teacher/preacher.

Josie, I don't think it's a matter of someone having to be perfect  in order to preach.  If, however, someone is living in rebellion, if they are living in habitual sin, they are disqualified from service.

Yes, there are some in the ministry I have come across who should have been disqualified - like living in adultery. Agree 100%.

It's very clear from scripture that a man must be qualified to lead God's local Church. Preachers are held to a higher standard than the average layman. 

 

Jas 3:1  Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 

 

 

Pastors are to be examples, and live out the Gospel that they preach. They are not perfect and stumble like all of us do, but they are our examples, we should follow their lead, pattern our lives after these Godly men who follow Christ. A man living in rank sin may not be disqualified as a saint, but holding an office as a leader in God's church is forbidden to him. 

 

Tit 2:7  In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 

 

1Ti 4:12  Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 

 

1Co 11:1  Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 

 

And let's not even talk about his married life, he should be exemplary in the community, and have a stable household. Being God's man or under shepherd is serious business. Unfortunately, not a lot of us qualify...at least not at the moment, but thank God for growth and progress. God can make anyone his man, and can clean anyone even though they may be failing at this moment and time. God can clean him or her and make them fit for his service.
