Cain, There is nothing in Gods word(the Bible) that is false . It might help you if you read it in its entirety. Then you will understand what God has laid out to us , whats right and wrong. Sin is sin and homosexuality is one of them.Its quite clear in the verse below.

22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Leviticus 18 :22 (NKJV)

The major flaw is that you're assuming that the teaching against homosexuality is equivalent to what Christians use to believe when they misinterpreted the Bible. The thing is you're missing the historical reasons of why they interpreted certain things in a certain way, who was running the church, and why they interpreted things in a certain way. The Bible never came out and said, "Blacks are evil", "You can't have pain relievers in child birth", and many other things like this. Thus attempting to label them as evil, to the proper scholar of the Bible, is stupid. However, the Bible does come out many times and state that homosexuality is a sin, that is a sin before God. So I fail to see how your analogy works.

Why assume that because someone is a "televangelist" that he is a Christian, or speaks for all Christians?

It seems to me that some people love to watch the Jimmy Swaggarts of the world because it justifies their hatred of Christians and Christianity. JMO though.
