Has any one been following this?

What are your thoughts?

Would you take a one way trip to Mars?

Are there any scriptural or theological concerns?

Ive been following this.

Personally I think they are nuts for doing this. Ive read that experts think there is no way they can survive more than a few months.

In arizona where I live there is something called the biosphere which was to study how to set up a completely enclosed self sufficient ecosystem in order to have this in space travel.

It failed.

The system leaked. Plants etc started dying. It doesnt work. I dont think the mars project is capable of setting up a life supporting system.

Is there a scriptural injunction against something like this? No. God isnt limited to earth. They can just as easily get saved on mars or in space as they can on earth. Although their chances of hearing the gospel might be a tad bit more limited up there. Nor will they be able to look around for a good church.

Of course God can find you wherever you are.

Psalm 139:7-10

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,

And Your right hand shall hold me.

God allows us to look into outer space for the purpose of seeing his glory.  He didn't make planets that were inhabitable like ours.   We are on the outer cusp of the Milky Way and this gives us a front row seat to be able to look into space and see all that he has made.  We able to send satellites and probes and learn more about space, but we are nowhere near capable of the kind of technology that would allow us to colonize other planets.

Everything, the entire universe was created for us, for God to show us how powerful He is and when we see the 10 octillion stars that Einstein estimated occupy our universe and when we consider that He made them out of nothing and even knows them all by name, He is more than capable of taking care of us.

Are there any scriptural or theological concerns?

1. Not really. Other than seeing an article or two on it around the web.

2. An awful lot of research and resources would need to go into something like a colonizing mission to Mars, and I doubt we have the technology to do that.

It would seem that the folks volunteering for this are either pioneers like our forefathers who explored the New World of their day - or are wanting to go on a suicide mission. I just don't see the sense in that. There was a project called Biosphere 2 located here in Arizona that was designed to set up and test a sealed environment for space travel and other purposes. It failed when the plants started dying and the air began going bad for the folks inside. There were also leaks. If they can't get a sealed environment to work here on Earth I doubt they could do so on Mars - which means the colonists would soon be dead too.

Another reason: Mars has no magnetic field like Earth's to protect the surface from the Sun's radiation . . . meaning you would have to live underground on Mars in order to shield yourself from it. You would also get radiation exposure just going out and working on the surface. Solar flares are a real danger even for those in near Earth orbit like the ISS and the ISS is still within the Earth's magnetic field.

3. No way I'd take a one way trip to Mars without a pretty firm impression about a few things:

A. That God had called me to go whether as a missionary or for what ever other reasons He might have.

B. I would much prefer if it wasn't essentially a suicide mission.

C. That there was a reasonable chance of survival not just of myself but also others on the crew and those who would follow.

An example of C is our history. Folks from Europe came to the New World on ships just like you would on Mars - but on Earth all things needed for life were already in place like air, edible plants, water, etc. They had a reasonable expectation of being able to survive in the New World. Not on Mars. You can only ship so much to another planet before its just too costly. Then there's the issues of raw materials. How do you make air? Are the raw materials available, and where are they? How do you find them? More important: How do you mine and or process them? There's a lot of stuff to consider - and if you don't consider rightly people die.

4. I don't see any particular Biblical or theological issues with going to Mars. I've never seen anything like a commandment, "Thou shalt not go off planet."  God created the heavens and the earth, and so if I can pray and praise Him here on Earth then I can do so on Mars - or any where else in the universe for that matter.

 I think you're right.

I think that the End Times is one reason we won't have folks living on the Moon or Mars any time soon. After Jesus returns perhaps, but not before. The events in Revelation will play out here on Earth.

We could just use it as a penal colony.  Seems fitting.  Plenty of rocks for them to bust.

Nations have begun that way here on Earth . . . tricky part would be setting up the colony to begin with. The escape rate would probably be pretty low . . . :whistling:

The drawback is if they develop a society and later find a way to start an inter-stellar war with earth.

It would be like Humans to do that...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
