"Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will succeed."

Does this really make sense.  They won't even be your plans, they will be the Lord's then.

Now in the nasb it says  "..and your plans will be established."

God is able to keep and bless whatever we give to him in trust and faith. It includes our entire walk in this life and in whatever we do in this life as we do what is right in the eyes of the Lord and honor him in the direction we take in life. It is "our" plans in this life that we are to give over to God commiting ourselves and our ways wholly to the Lord for we have to chose it daily. In so doing our will(or plans in life) becomes his will and we will succeed spiritually and be blessed according to however else God chooses to bless us in our life as a result of doing it, so that we may be prosperous and be in good health. Or we can reject the wisdom and knowledge of God and go do our own will in life without God and his help and blessings upon our life without the Lord. But none of us has a promise of tomorrow and one could die apart from God. The wisdom and knowledge of God is that commiting and trusting him with our lives and for his help is so that we may prosper and be in good health in this life but also in the next life which is eternal. Trusting in our own ways making our own plans apart from God makes that "promise" that is found in Proverbs void by our (nay or saying no to God in keeping us in this life and for eternity) we forfeit the promise.. and our own plans will not sustain us in the end of this life without God we will perish for eternity. Without God ones own plans will come to naught if they think their own way will save them in the end for they will not succeed or be established in the Lord. In the book of James it tells of such a story of a man making his own plans in this life as he went and moved to a city so he could make a lot of money then take his ease thinking it was going to sustain his life in the earth. But none of us has a promise of tomorrow and no amount of money can keep us from death. So we should trust God and commit our plans in this life to him not forgetting him who gave it to us. For He is able to keep that which we have committed to his trust.

"Succeed" is clearly a mistranslation.  That Hebrew word kun means established or firmly established.  The meaning is quite clear. When you commit everything you do to the Lord, your plans (thoughts) will be firmly established.  They will indeed be your plans but with guidance and wisdom from God and His Word.

Another reason to be careful which Bible version you use.  Some omit thousands of words and others change the clear meaning just to show they are "wiser".

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the Lord,And your thoughts will be established.

Every job you do should be done unto the Lord.Jobs we do on our own are doomed to failure. We must totally commit ourselves to trust and submission to the will of God.

Proverbs 16:4 The Lord has made all for Himself,Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

God made everything good.God did not make evil.Man has free will and some choose to be evil.It is God's wish that all would come to the knowledge of God and be saved by Jesus Christ.

When we commit our plans to the Lord it takes the us or my way out of it for starters.

Roll your works upon the Lord commit them and trust them wholey to Him,

.................................THEN.......................................................

He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will

............................THEN...............................................

And so shall your plans be established

.............................THEN........................

And succeed

Once we trust Him with our plans or desires by giving them to Him.....It opens the door for a loving Father to tweek or fix or add to or take away from your plans............

In doing this He (God) is able to mold them and fit them into His perfect plan for our lives or direct in how to go about a certain task or desire.

Once this is done He gives us back this desire or works or plans and we will know that we know He is in it and by doing this,,,,,,,,our works or plans will now SUCCED because He is able to be in them. Too many people feel we can do just what ever we want and God will back us or bless our plans.

Blessings

Jim

I like this answer, and would have said the same. As we go through our journey and put our faith into God and do his will his plans become ours and he will see that they are established, as he will complete what he has given us to do.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
