The news out of the United Kingdom almost reads like a satire piece from The Onion. But as strange as it may sound to people around the world, and especially in the United States, the British police push to ban knives is no joke.

The new “Save a Life – Surrender Your Knife” program is in full swing and police are telling us that they have joined forces with an already growing trend in the United Kingdom to ban “pointy” knives.

Lancashire Police tell us that an “amnesty” program began at the end of August, and “more than 800 knives have been handed in across the county – including swords, machetes and commando knives.”

“The amnesty was extended for a further week owing to its success,” Lancashire Police representatives explained.

The Lancashire department explains that their “officers have now given their backing to a national initiative designed to raise awareness of knife crime and encourage the surrender of dangerous weapons.”

In spite of the amnesty ending this week, police tell us that “people can continue to hand in any knife at any police station with a front counter as well being able to drop them into the designated bins.”

Those bins will be in cities all over the U.K. as this call for people to turn in pointed knives continues.

“We are keen to raise awareness of the devastating impact of knife crime and to reduce the number of families affected so we have decided to keep the knife bins indefinitely,” Detective Chief Inspector Steve Dowson said.

“While projects encouraging the surrender of knives are not a single solution to violence, they have an important role to play in inspiring communities to get behind education and preventative measures,” he added. “Such campaigns show a desire to address local concerns and Lancashire Police is keen to throw our weight behind them in support.

“We’ve been delighted with the response so far, but our communities have told us that they want an end to knife crime and that they want to work with us to make that happen.”

A call from the British Medical Journal was published several years ago, arguing that “many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon,” according to the BBC.

Researchers “consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen. None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.”

Again, we remind our readers outside of the UK, that this is not satire, just another example of the government claiming they are here to protect us from ourselves.

In the UK, the rate of knife violence is approximately one in every 374 people victimized, compared with a rate of one in 750 people victimized by gun violence in the United States.

I pointed out in another thread how different this turned out when compared to places like Baltimore and Ferguson.    Notice that the blacks didn't protest and burn down buildings and cause traffic jams and such.   People from all races joined hands and hearts at a Church and prayed for the victims' families, for the gunman and for Charleston.    No rioting, no hate.   No irrational, maniacal rants from Al Sharpton.   Just a peaceful response in the form of prayer and worship.

The president and the Left don't know how to deal with REAL love.   This was a ugly tragedy, but the response was beautiful and full of REAL forgiveness that the Left has no ability to comprehend.

The Left was bracing for yet another protest, but they didn't get it and so in order to create racial divide and hate, the Left and their media lap dogs decided to  raise the issue about the Confederate flag.  They had to drag everything into the mud, 'cause that's where the Left lives.

I think a strong part of this is the gunman wasn't a cop.

That's true.   Charleston is a model for how people should respond to these tragedies be it a police officer or anyone.

I agree, I just wonder if it had been a different outcome if it had been a cop, or in the cases of Baltimore and Ferguson if the cops hadn't been involved. Just how big of a factor is that.

In any case this was a tragedy and I'm glad people are pulling together for it instead of going to war on themselves.

On the same day as the sandy hook shooting in the us, a man with a knife attacked people in a school in china. Many injured and died there. China routinely has massacres with people using knives. That tends to be overlooked as well. Folks intent on killing will find ways to do it even if there were no guns.

The guy is a psychopath and possessed by pure evil.  There is nothing else that can explain his actions.  I have prayed for the families of the victims as that's all any of us CAN do.

yes BE because all conservatives are racists. . .I think he was just evil.

Those bits from the articles are facts. What I'm saying is events like these don't happen in a vacuum.

If he grew up in an environment where racism and white supremacy was denounced as abhorrent and wrong, then I don't think he would've walked into a black church to commit an act of terrorism with a stated goal of trying to start a race war.

You don't know what type of environment he grew up in, B.E.  Don't be like the 'talking heads' on t.v. and speculate, ad nauseum, before any facts are in.  They do that about EVERYTHING.  This guy is first and foremost just plain EVIL.

I'm not wrong.

In North Carolina, another Church with mostly black people in the congregation was burned down. These might be separate people doing these things, but it stems from the same poisonous root, hatred and racism.

Hatred and racism is a part of the human experience and is in every country in the world.   Racism is a spiritual problem and no amount of activism will solve the problem.

TWICE as many people have been killed by homegrown extremists, as opposed to islamic extremists since 9/11. White supremacists have tried to kill the President (Obama) I imagine they are responsible for burning down the Church in North Carolina that happened on the 18th, it is a SERIOUS problem where people die and have their lives put in jeaporday and I believe it should be treated more seriously than how you have just addressed this.

The problem is this isn't the Islamic State, it's a cultural shift that needs to take place within America, and that means everyone has to put that effort forward towards understanding and empathy, abandoning and abolishing racism and hatred instead of sitting idly by while it happens.

No, it wouldn't have been different. A black man was shot a few weeks ago in Charleston by a white cop. The cop was in the wrong and arrested. But there weren't any riots and carrying on like there was in other places.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
