I don't know if I would call a pencil that says John 3:16 on it (or any other pencil) a tool of darkness just because it was used to write something that went against God. I don't know exactly how to say this, but I would just say the darkness is in us...our minds/hearts, and just because we use something to spread that darkness, doesn't mean what we use is a tool of darkness. Heres one reason why I say this.....

I once worked with a woman who was FULL of darkness. To make fun of God, use his name in vain, curse him, etc..was no surprise coming from her. This woman also smoked pot. Well, she admitted to me one day that she and some of her friends had some pot, but were out of rolling papers one day. SO what did they do? They ripped a page out of the Holy Bible, and rolled the pot in it. So it is correct to say the page from the Holy Bible then became a tool of darkness?

Perhaps that is totally different than the pencil thing, but is the first thing that came to my mind. God Bless All!

Yes. It's just paper with words printed on them. It's the principles of the Bible and the truth that is not to be mocked. A bible is just an inanimate object.

I would take the pencil with John 3:16 on it.

Why? The real question should be, why not?

Also, could you fit the whole verse on one little pencil. I mean, it is quite a few words.

Yes! I have a pencil like that, I didn't buy it though, it was given to me.

If I use a pencil with John 3:16 to write a treatise on why There is no God, and how evolution should be the belief system of all people, that pencil has been a tool of darkness, no matter what is imprinted on it. I can take a plain pencil and write a letter to my friend giving a gospel message and my plain little pencil has been a tool to spread the gospel without ever having been seen by the recipient of the letter.

Wow, good one, IR! :24:

I would leave the John 3:16 pencil there and pray that someone who is lost will buy it

LOL, that was exactly my first thought! :24:

Strange question SJ.

Given that they are identical, and assuming I have a need for a pencil since I prefer pens even when doing crossword puzzles, then I would buy the John 3:16 pencil. I would assume that it is remotely possible that I might have it where some unsaved person would see it. A slight chance, but God can use anything to spread His message.

Does a pencil with a scripture on it hold more inherent value than a blank one? While many are inclined to say yes, the simple answer is no. Both hold equal value and relevancy to Christ. Neither one is more inclined to be a witnessing tool than the other. While one has a scripture upon it that directly reveals the work of God, the other is proof of God and glorifies God. A regular pencil glorifies God in that it stands as a testament to the human mind that He has created. A mind that knew how to take lead, put it within wood, and make a writing utincil. It seems so absolutely simplistic yet is so very important. If we believe that the pencil with scripture on it holds more spiritual value then we become dualist in our beliefs and limit God in what can bring absolute glory to Him.

Furthermore, spirituality is not dependant upon what is written or imprinted on something, but our actions with that object. As C.S. Lewis stated:

God judges by their moral choices.  When a neurotic who has a pathological horror of cats forces himself to pick up a cat for some good reason, it is quite possible that in God's eyes he has shown more courage than a healthy man may have shown in winning the V.C.

Thus, our actions with a certain item also determine the "spirituality" of that item. So no object is above the other simply because of what is printed upon it but rather what is done with that object. While all objects point towards the glory of God, we can taint those objects if not used properly.

Thus, don't look at an object as simply an object, but as a testament to the glory of God.

OK - I see the point.

(Ha! Ha! Get it? "Point!?"

Oh . . . never mind!)

Seriously, though, it is a good argument. Which reminds me of something else . . . I think I'll start a new topic on it so as not to hijack this one.

This is why I don't go to college and listen to this stuff. We are discussing what is on a pencil! Gee, Whiz. And a for the Bible issue, a Bible is a Holy object, and I am disappointed that any Christian would not give it a second thought. Money is spent and lives put in danger to get Bibles in peoples hands. No, the Bible in itself has no saving power, nor does either pencil. But a Bible is sacred, just as a place of worship is. I suppose that if someone broke into your church, destroyed the sanctuary, it would be no big deal? Besides the fact it takes money to do the repairs that could be used for other things for God's work. We are so lost in this shredding the word and dissecting it we don't have time for the basic issue. Christ died for sinners. We need to get back to the basics. If I had someone told me they did that with a page form a Bible, I would tell them that is really tempting the wrath of God.If your bible has no value to you, give it to someone that will treat it with some respect. I have a friend from Worthy that has bought bibles for people that do not have one. If she ever reads this thread, it will break her heart. :)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
