Now, the term certainly has some redundancy in it, but it is most commonly used to differentiate between nominal and real Christianity within our societies, it also functions as a term of derision as well - however I still wish to know why a term needs to be in the bible in the exact expression we use in modern English before it is valid for our use?   

How can we understand what Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus, a man born into the family of Abraham through one of the tribes of Jacob , sircumsize according to the Law and in full obedience to the Law, and the ceremonial cleances (water was been use for these ceremonies to remove uncleanliness ) having been taught  that the promish of the Kingdom of God will be reaved in his Generation.

Nicodemus had a concept of the Kingdom of God, the same consept as all the other Jews had and the disciples of Jesus that time.

So Jesus was addressing not only the beliefs of Nicodemus about the coming Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of his Christ , the Son of David , but also the beliefs of all the other Jews and that of the disciples.

Jesus was telling all of them that they have the wrong consept of the Kingdom of God, believing that the Christ, (to Nicodemus and the disciples and others, this been Jesus), and expecting that he will restore the glory of Davids Kingdom on their land, been the ruler over both kingdoms of Israel just like his Father, defeating all the enemies  and never have to die he will rule for ever, no a chance for his children to inherite  the Kingdom (if he would have wifes and children like his Father David.

The believed that the inheritance of the Christ it was an earthly inheritance. 

That the Christ will live rule and live forever, but they will die and go to the Bossom of Abraham as usual.

Jesus gave Nicodemus a hind that he will die, and he will have a Heavenly inheritance and the children of this Heavenly inheritance will see the Kingdom of God, when the time comes after his death and they can be the children of the Heavens , born from above , the redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, and sealed by the spirit of God. The born from above by faith in Jesus Christ. 

This culture of Including their lifestyle  together with their faith in Jesus Christ and claiming that this is the only way not to go to Hell is against the Gospel of the Good news of Jesus Christ .

"Christians" is a descriptive title for those who have been "born again".

you could call them "believers" or you could call them "followers of The Way".... or you could call them "disciples of Christ"

Blessings Kwik, I think that the point the op wants to make is that we should rather inform believers in general that they belong to Jesus Christ, that because of their faith in Jesus Christ they are the spiritual children of God, born  from above, that's where they belong, because of Jesus Christ.  

This is a peaceful message and informs of the truth.

I was Spiritually birthed the split-second I confessed Jesus as Savior, Romans 10:8-13, having previously been sinfully birthed. That's the "born from above" experience. It is reborn, born anew, out of the confines of sin and into the Amazing Grace of our Savior. 

The English language has undergone many changes over the centuries. Adjectives have been added to terminology that was once sufficient in and of itself: True became "absolutely" true. False became "definitely" false.  Christian, in and of itself, contains "born again," "born from above," "Spiritually birthed," without further clarification. The adjective was unnecessarily added. That doesn't mean it is wrong or worthy of being trashed! I'll accept "born again Christian" or "born again Believer" anytime! I just realize that Christian says it all. Christian. Wow! How firm a foundation!"

We must no see the Nicodemus incounder out of contex. Only the Jews were the children of God.  And Jesus was telling Nicodemus that this special privileged of been the seed of Abraham is coming to an end. 

By destiny Nicodemus who was from the seed of Abraham, and not him only, lived at the crossroads of the transition of the old to the new covenant. If Nicodemus would have die before the cross, he will die as a child of God, because of his Abrahamic Inheritance , but if he lived and refuse faith in Jesus Christ he will be lost, but if he believe he will be a child of God on account of Jesus Christ.      And this time will be deferent , this time he will have a heavenly inheritance and he will count on the atonement of Jesus Christ, and will be one in Spirit with God. 

That passage tell us that Jesus Christ told Nicodemus of the things to come in his name, and at the same time, that the Jewish structure will have no value to God, even thought the Jewis will continiun to follow.
