I have a really problem with social awkwardness. It has got better over the years, but I still have problems talking to people, some people even think I come across as rude and cold. The truth is I want to be out going, I feel like the real me is trapped inside, I feel my shyness is keeping me from being the man God wants me to be. I would like some advice to combat this problem thanks.

Hi Ricky,  You are  free in Christ.  Please don't let people  put a tag on your of some sort of mental illness.  A lot of people feel as you do.  Just remind the enemy who you are and Who you belong to.  We are here to preach the gospel of Christ.  Personally  I think God may have big plans for you and the enemy wants to stop you  in your tracks.  Use the word of God every time one of these thoughts come into your mind.  I was just watching a special last night on Billy Graham's 97th birthday.  He too was a very  shy farm boy.  Then he answered Gods call.... well you know the rest.  Run with the truth Ricky you are Christ's Champion!  Praise God!

With all things, ask God to help you in this. And also, joining maybe a social group of some time in your church or community will help you naturally become more social. The more we practice something, the more fluid it becomes. :)

We have to be careful in giving advice to those who have a more serious social anxiety disorder. If you tell them to put themselves into a social environment it could cause more harm.It all depends on how serious it is.Just being shy?Social anxiety?Social phobia?.A couple of the latter disorders a person should really get counseling. One of the treatments that work well is cognitive therapy.

The only reason anyone would have to "be careful" is because the person is not ready to receive Gods Truth......it is not a matter of giving anyone advice,it is Gods Word,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

King James Bible
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
                                                                                                                               Eph 6:12

Many Christians are deaf & blind to spiritual warfare.............if they are drinking milk, they cannot digest meat......it would be like sending a child with a pea shooter out in the middle of a battlefield where the soldiers have tanks ,machine guns & grenades.................unfortunately ,some are on milk until they are old & gray............................& then of course there are the unbelievers but I do believe we are talking about  Christians,,,,,,,

New creations in Christ have renewed minds & relinquished all of "self" to Jesus.............the flesh must die in order to walk in Spirit,,,,,just because a person confesses Jesus as their Savior & they are Saved does not mean they will instantaneously be 'Free" from the bondage they have been chained to for most  or all of their lives,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,first they must accept Gods Truth & receive Understanding by the Power of the Holy Spirit(not their own understanding),,,they must recognize the strongholds for what they truly are & then they can leave their "old man"

Too many believers do not believe ALL of Gods Word,His Promises,His Timeless Truth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they live on sedatives, tranquilizers, mood stabilizers etc......    it becomes a comfort zone for them, they are deceived           What diagnosis do you suppose they would label the man bound by "legion"? Or the child that through himself in the fire & foamed at the mouth?

Praise & Glory to God in the Highest,my Strongtower,my Rock,my Refuge,,,,,,,,,,,,

King James Bible
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
                                                                                                                                                              2 Timothy 1:7

                                                                                                Bless the Lord,Oh my soul,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Kwik

I was thinking something called avoidant peronality disorder personally, but there is no confirmation of that.

Ricky, may I say something again?  I don't believe you  have any kind of disorder.  Some people are just shy.  I just get nuts when people hang tags on other people and give them the idea that this is a "disorder" and not just something that with God's grace you will get through. I have a friend who is very outgoing.  she will start up a conversation with anyone anywhere.  She loves being the center of attention.  I tend to drop back and just stay in the background. I have never felt comfortable with  anyone making a big deal over me.  One time I made all A's on my report card.  Those were the days when my mom would keep in touch with my aunt in California via cassette tapes.  We still lived in Michigan.  She kind of pushed me into speaking into the microphone to tell her about the report card.  I had a very hard time doing it.  I just wasn't comfortable.  I"m still not.  I can talk on the phone but to speak into a microphone it was very difficult.  I learned with time to feel more comfortable, but I"m still not comfortable being the center of attention.

Just trust God and let Him use you.  Remember He didn't give us a spirit of fear, don't live in that spirit of fear and don't let some tag you with a disorder.

Love you brother.   RustyAngeL

Blessings Ricky......

I started reading some responses & then I came upon simple jeffs,I couldn't bother with anything else after reading his,,,,,,,,I do not agree with most people when it comes to mans diagnoses, labels & stigmatism,,,,,,,,I am a Christian,"I will hear no evil report",,,,,,,,,I do not receive what anyone would like me to believe(or agree with) except Gods Word & His Timeless Truth,,,,,we are FREE in Christ Jesus,no more shackles,no more chains,no bondage....

jeff has made great suggestions & references,.....receive positive, eternal, spiritual, good & Heavenly things of God!!!!!You might enjoy reading Andrew Wommachs testimony,,,,he was an introvert before he rexnewed his mind & became a new creature in Christ Jesus!!!!Halleluyah!

Walking in Spirit & in Truth ,with the Heart & Mind of JESUS you can do ALL things because He Who is in you is Greater than he who is in the world,,,,,,,,,,,,you are MORE than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, trust God ,,,,,you will overcome this little obstacle,in Jesus Name                                      With love-in Christ,Kwik

You will be a living testimony for the Glory of God,,,,,,,,I believe it,you believe it!

Amen!  Both of our posts pretty much say the same thing.  We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength!

Blessings Ricky,,,,,

I do agree with Rusty 100%,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you are going to be just fine & do not let anyone"label" you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,trust God,trust the Word of God..................remember,it is a journey,no one would expect you to lose 50 pounds overnight if you decided to go on a diet, right?!!!!!;lol

Ricky,we have to "renew our minds",,,,,,,,,,,,Jesus will most certainly change you into that 'new creation" but YOU have to renew your mind, your thinking,,,take captive every thought & speak Gods Truth with your mouth, pray the heart & MInd of Christ

Yes indeed,YOU ARE more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,& being a little shy is not a disorder, did I mention that Andrew Wommack was a complete introvert before he was brought to the place & position God had for him? He began to stand firmly on Gods Word ,renewing his mind & trusting Jesus completely,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,little by little he was transformed into the preacher he is today,,,,& boy can he talk!!!!!Praise & Glory to God!!!!!                                                        With love-in Christ,Kwik

I would not join  any kind of "social group" that is not faith based and by faith based I mean Jesus centered"   Look to your Heavenly Father Ricky He is all you need and holds you and all your answers in the Palm of His Hand.   To God be the Glory!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
