JohnD - What is the significance of the question: "Did God commission Solomon to build the temple?"?

JohnD is taking a Scripture out of context to prove that God did NOT commission Solomon to build the Temple (or so it would appear). But the fact of the matter is that God did indeed commission Solomon to build a Temple, and it was done according to God's plan, therefore God blessed that effort. We all know that God cannot be limited to a Temple, but that is entirely beside the point.  There will also be a Millennial Temple set up with God's approval and under His direction.

Since God did not commission or command Solomon to build the Temple (2 Samuel 7:12-13 / Zechariah 6:12-13, Isaiah 66:1-2) but God placed his name on the Temple Solomon built anyway... it is a concession nevertheless.

David's and Solomon's words contradict you, and they are words of scripture.

I think I will take their words in scripture over yours contradicting them any day my friend.

Agreed. Scripture is supreme over any man's word. But the evidence I showed was from scripture.

Then Ezra should have no trouble showing the scriptures indicating God commanded Solomon to build the Temple.

And in Hebrews 8:5 clearly the command and pattern for him to follow is mentioned:

Hebrews 8:5 (AV)

5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Oh, no wait, it doesn't.

David's say so, passed on through Solomon. Which scripture records as David having said so and Solomon having said so. But there is no corroboration from God or any other prophet. In fact God balks at the idea (Isaiah 66:1-2 and elsewhere) and tells David outright not to build the Temple. David supplied the reason. God did not.

John,

I hope you don't believe that Isaiah was a contemporary of David and Solomon, since you keep bringing up his words. There is a gap of approximately 400 years between the building of Solomon's Temple, and the prophecies of Isaiah.  So for all intents and purposes, Isaiah has no relevance to this thread. To respond very briefly to your contention that God did not commission Solomon, we have God's words confirming that Solomon was approved by God to build that temple (2 Chronicles 7:11,12):

Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.  And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

Isaiah 66:1–2 (AV)

1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Did God commission Solomon to build the Temple?

The answer to this question in one word is NO.

when Isaias wrote this scripture, Solomon was dead long time ago,

And it's  impossible to have made this reference to anyone that was under the Law of Moses.

Because that scripture does not make any reference to been under the rule of the Mosaic Law, to the contrary it suggest that is withing a season, that is out of the Law season.

It does not say that, together with keeping, and be perfect under the law, in addition to this I Whould bless only the man with a poor spirit and a contried heart.

It says; that I will look to the man, (but what man, is he tauking about, and it is singural form, and this man will have my word, and what his word  is about,

And he said all that, after a season, when the Temple was shut down for a season and the idols where in Jerusalem, and many of people who were right in their heart , were shut out of the Lord,

Here it seems he is tauking of a season that is not known to them.

A season without the need of this Kind of Temple, that the Lord can judge every one Individualy, and what is that here my voice, or having my word in him, it sounds The New Covenant season, Holy Spirit season.

When all the other times, he is saying keep the commandments written in the book of the Law.

It seems to me there didn't need to be a commandment from God to David or Solomon to build the temple. It was the desire of David, one after God's own heart, to build the temple. Nathan told him, "do as thine heart pleases". However, just as Moses could not enter into the promised land, so David was actually commanded not to build the temple. That fulfillment of that desire was given to Solomon.

No need for a commandment. It was the righteous desire of a king to build a house for his God.

This is the same as saying that, I will be a moral person and very charitable, having the best self-righteousness and I am ready vessel  for God to come and make his house in me, that will never work, not only in the new, but also in the old covenant,

the point to built God a house or a tabernacle it was that it was impossible for them, to be the temple and or the tabernacle of God.

That is a very interesting observation.  And this is why it was a type and shadow of what was to come through Christ, we all individually, our bodies, are the temple of the Holy Spirit now.

Also, God told David he did well in wanting to build a house for God:

1 Kings 8
18"But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.

2 Chronicles 6:5–6 (AV)

5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel*:

6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?

Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
