The heaven and the earth are not going anywhere according to God, but God will renew the heavens and the Earth no doubt about it.

The Earth is now and will remain forever. The only change that will occur will be the fact that God will renew it. It is full of pollutants, atomic waste, and the whole of space is full of space junk, and only God knows how much worse it will get before King Jesus arrives and takes over the control and rule of this Earth, and gets rid of sin and finally restores everything back to its original state as it was before Adam sinned.

Now God promised in Genesis,

Genesis 8:22, While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

This will be impossible if there is no sun and moon to cause summer and winter, and day and night to continue.

The normal earthly people, not the glorified saints who will rule over them, but the earthly people who come through the Millennium and do not rebel and join Satan when he's loosed for a short time, will continue on and live in the New Earth and they will sow and reap and prosper for ever more. And they will traffic in and out and through the New Jerusalem as God says they will.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

In Zechariah 14: 6-8, we have a prophecy;

  Zech. 14:6, And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

What is taught by this Scripture is this. On the very day King Jesus appears on earth and the battle of Armageddon if fought, the light will NEITHER BE CLEAR NOR DARK;  but a evening time IT WILL BGECOME LIGHT. This refers to the change in the light of day and night in the Millennium. The light of the day will be seven fold brighter, and the light of the night will be as that of this present day.  (V. 7;  Isa. 30:26). The battle will last only one day; by evening it will be over and the new light increase will take affect, (V. 7; Isa. 30:26).

In that day, (The day of Christs return, His second Advent, the living waters shall go forth from Jerusalem, half toward the Mediterranean and half toward the Dead Sea (Ezek. 47:1-12). The new river emerging from under the sancturary, located just north of Jerusalem. will flow south through the city and then divide into two parts, half will flow into the Mediterranean and half into the dead Sea. In both summer and winter it will flow and create life where ever it goes (V 8: Ezek. 47:1-12).

V. 7, But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
   

V. 8, And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

[Summer and winter are  both eternal (V. 8; Gen. 8:22). The commonly quoted statement- the time will come when one cannot tell the summer from the winter except by the falling of the leaves - is false and not in the Bible. All seasons are eternal according to Scripture.]

Without the sun and the moon shining eternally all these Scriptures and the renewed New Heaven and the New Earth will not exist and that is no where in Scripture.

I have collected a few such calculations based on the city formed like a mountain.

The lowest figure is 8 million sq km of surface area, and the highest 12 million sq km, which was done calculating the world's average surface area on dry land.

With absolutely no waste lands or uninhabitable land, it offers a lot of room. But the figure most accurate in my opinion is the one which removed the water sources such as the lakes and it came to about 11 million sq km. That is about the size of the whole of North America?

Understood, from Scripture we can conclude that the city is not simply a cube for a wall would be of no value around a cube, which itself would have four sides 1,500 miles high. From all the statements mentioned in Scripture it is clear that the city is a series of mountain peaks, beginning inside the walls as low foothills and increasing in height until the highest peak is, 1,500 miles high. On the highest part is built the Heavenly Tabernacle or capitol building where God sits as Supreme Moral Governor of the Universe. It was after the patterns of this tabernacle that Moses made his earthly tabernacle (Heb. 8:5; 9:23). On the mountains and in the valleys are built many mansions of John 14:1-3. There are living fountains of waters springing up through the city and rivers of water clear as crystal.

We will, as the population of natural peoples continue to have children, and because we will live forever, we will start to expand out into the universe which has been put under our feet.

Why is that?

Because Earthly and natural people will not live in the city, but they will traffic in the city. If the new Jerusalem is hovering above the Earth, that kind of makes it inconvenient, if not difficult for ordinary people to traffic through the city wouldn't it? Or do you think maybe God will provide a regular space shuttle service to and from it?

The traffic in New Jerusalem will consist of natural peoples who live through the Millennium and who do not rebel with Satan against God at the end of the Millennium. They will be permitted to enter the new Earth to plant, harvest, build, multiply and replenish the Earth as Adam and his seed would have done if they had not fallen.  These people will traffic in the New Jerusalem and walk in its light and their Kings will bring glory and honor of the nations into it and to God forever. There will be natural men on this Earth forever and all natural life will continue in all eternity as God intended when He created such life on Earth.

The significance of the east gate caught my attention, I have heard, it is the main entrance of the twelve, it must belong to the tribe of.......... ? We should be able to work that one out by the symbols of the twelve tribes and how they were placed in the camp of Israel. My guess is the Lion gate - Judah?
