I used to like the NIV, but then I came across the NKJV.

There was one time when I had to use the KJV for over a week at a Bible Camp, and I realized that the KJV was actually quite a good version.

However, I came to realize that the KJV was too difficult for me to have an in-depth study, so I searched for a simpler, but easier Bible, but written like the KJV.

I have to admit...I enjoyed the "poectic style " and the "accracy".

So, I remembered the NKJV, stuck in my shelf.

I dragged it out, and used it, to see what it was like.

Now I use it, alongside th KJV.

I am sure you will shortly have a whole bunch of guys saying it is the only authoritive word of God. That normally happens.

I believe the KJ only chaps are truly mislead.

Me personally I believe that sice the original manuscripts dont exist anymore we have to rely on copies of them so we have two main sources and I use both.

For accuracy I use the NKJV and NASB and they are quite readable and for easier reading I will use an ESV or NIV my preference being the ESV.

I dont believe any further paraphrasing is needed as these are quite readable so I dont like the Message etc as they really water down Gods word terribly.

So in general I use 3 versions and compare them. There is nothing wrong with the KJV but I belive you will get allot more out of the NKJV if you battle with the old english.

What's the difference, since most of scripture is interpretted any ways.

Can't God overcome translation barriers? Can satan foil God's plan by rewording things?

There are lots of simple minded people like myself who have difficulty getting passed the poetic feel of the KJV. Are we reading a satanic version of the bible if we choose plain english? Are we missing out on something?

Prideful people think their way is the only way, with the exception of christ of course. His way is the right way and he wants us all to know that. He wasn't just talking to the Shakespear crowd

King James is a good version,

NIV is a good version,

Amplified is a good version,

as are many others.

the main version I use is a parallel in church, makes it a bit easier to follow with what ever version is being used, and can look across at the others to see how it llines up.

we also use the Amplified for I feel of the versions we have here, it is the most correct, more literal and accurate in its translation.

versions we have are:

KJV,

NKJV,

NIV,

AMP,

Living,

New Living,

NASB

NCV

Greek new test.

I still like the KJV, always have, always will. use it for memory work, and seems to be the most acceptable

my kids use the NIV for memory and study, for Teen Bible Quis. and other versions when they are working on messages. ( like in fine arts and such )

***

as a side note: the Original King James Version (1611) is very difficult to read, with out changes thru-out time, we would have a version now (KJV) that no one would want to read, so even the KJV is not the same as it once was...

I think the KJV is a fine version. I don't use it, but only because it was difficult for me to understand when I first became a Christian 22 years ago. I think I used the NIV at that time, which, again, is a fine version.

Today, my main Bible is the NKJV. I also have the Amplified version that I use when studying. I like the literal, extended translations of it. I do own a Message Bible. I use it more for recreational-type reading of the Bible. It reads like a novel, so it's fun to just sit and read it.

My topic description pretty much sums it up.  Does anyone prefer the King James version or dislike it?  Why?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I began reading the KJV as a child back in the 50's. I did not understand it then and I don't understand it now. To me, the purpose of an English translation is to have it in the language of the people. We don't speak "King James English," so we should have the Bible in the language we do speak.

My favorite is the New International Version, because of the most accurate translations out there, it is the easiest one for me to understand. I read on a seventh grade level, and it is on a seventh grade level. The KJV is written on about a 12th grade level and I think the NASV is on a 9th grade reading level.

Until I began reading the NASV back in the early 70's, I never really got much out of reading the Bible. When I started reading the NASV, suddenly God's word became alive to me.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
