Drinking

You make a good point, Gerioke, and Jesus did drink wine.  However, when you look at what the bible is refering to, the bible referred to simple grape juice as 'wine'.  So, you've got grape juice as 'wine', and you've got alcoholic 'wine as... well, 'wine'.  I don't drink because my father was an alcoholic and it destroyed his body and his life.  I watched him slowly kill himself through the years by watching him chug can after can of beer.  Both of my grandfathers (biological) were severe alcoholics, and abusive alcoholics at that.  So, I generally stay away from alcohol.  I'll take it in Nyquill, but...  that's pretty much the only way I'll put that stuff in my body.  My two cents.

There are thirteen original Hebrew and Greek words for "wine" in our English Bible. How can we know which one means fermented wine? To find the answer, go to the Bible itself. By comparing its usage, the scriptural meaning of wine can be defined.

One of the original Hebrew words for wine is "yayin." This word is first used in Genesis 9:21 where Noah "drank of the wine and was drunken." This wine caused drunkenness! Was it just grape juice or was it molasses?

In Genesis 14:18 we read of Melchizedek

Naturally fermented wine is between 10 percent and 14 percent alcohol. Higher alcoholic wines are fortified wines. On such special occasions God even allowed use of what is translated as

Anything that might offend a brother or sister in Christ should be avoided though. I would never offer a drink to someone that I knew did not drink. I don't eat pork in front of my mother either. It's common curteousy (spelling is bad but it still looks wrong) , just common sense to me.

But even doctors agree that a glass of wine a day is good for your body. Just don't over endulge.

Umm... I have an idea. If none of us drink, and we encourage others not to drink, then we're sure to be safe, aren't we? If something is unclear as to whether or not it's okay to do it, isn't it safer to not do it generally than it is to do it?

A glass of wine a day is actually good for people. So to encourage others not to drink would be a dis-service to them. Besides, it would be telling them false doctrine.

On things that are unclear to me, yes it is better that I don't do them, but this is not a topic that I am unsure about.

Wine is not grape juice, Jesus turned water into wine, Jesus would not cause people to sin, so it is okay by me as long as not done in excess or in the company of others who feel they can't drink.

It's not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him but rather what comes out of his mouth. Don't judge anyone on the subject of eat or drink, or observance of Holy days.

Well, I have much more trouble with food than alcohol, so I could take this thought process and ask people not to eat any foods that make people overweight.

So don't make those pecan pies, or chocolate mouse, or those pecan log rolls that call me from the shelves.

No outlawing alcohol altogether is not the anwswer.... teaching self controll is.

And if you can't controll it then do without. I have friends that are alcoholics and do not drink at all but will tell us to have a beer or wine and it isn't a problem for them.

If a person is still a drunk, they are going to drink excessivly no matter what.
