My aunt and uncle in Kentucky did the same thing.  And they sometimes cooked the brains in the skull for dinner.  I wouldn't eat that if I was in the middle of a famine and I knew my number was up!

No you wouldn't. You would be surprised what you would eat if you were really starving.

My mother had Alzheimer's and died from it.   She got to where she could not swallow solids or liquids and had legally set up where we could not give her a feeding tube.....    I sat with her during her last week of life and the last two days hardly left her bedside.....   I watched her starve to death as peacefully as going to sleep and not waking up while most of the time holding her hand and talking to her.  I would have no trouble just going out in the woods and setting down leaning up against a tree and  passing on.

That is sad.

Pickled raw herring (gag) - top that!  and I even love sushi.

Got truly sick on that ( Pickled Herring) at Solvang Ca. on my first wedding  anniversary. We were staying at the Madonna Inn. I heaved at their fine restaurant  the one with the wooden grape stairway bannisters and those plush  pink booths. Then spent two days in the rock Cave room- sick and heaving. So yes that  would be my worst, but I never "had" to eat the stuff. I just tried it at a buffet. Sure ruined that expensive anniversary gift.

Sardines, they are okay, though preferred are smelt. Deep fried smelt, bones head and all.
