we do not have to study other sects or colts, if we stay ground in the word, we can know them cause they do not line up with the Word....

sects are differant then cults.

GAL 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

1JN 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

This is a sad and ridiculous thread....

Luke 6:37 - Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

I know none of you are God so I know none of you knows what's in a person's heart.

....and no, I don't belong to any of those groups you mentioned in case you were wondering.

Don't forget the other verses that Jesus spoke about judging.

Luke 12:56-58

56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?

What can we judge a group by, if not by their actions? That seems logical to me, and Jade, I did not know that was true about Mormons. Thank you for correcting me.

why thank you Bukeye,

am not judging any person, judging the gospel that is not lining up with the Word of God that is being spread.

what does James say about accepting those sharing a gosple other then that of Jesus?

depends on the version being read from, but it says that we are not to bid them God Speed,

putting it plainly, we are not to accept them into our house, if they are spreading any other gosple, and we are not to bless them on their way if they are taking with them a gosple other then that of Jesus Christ.....

not judging the people, just judging the gosple in which they are trying to tell us we are to accept, and it does not line up with the Word of God.....

we do not have to accept anything that does not line up with the Word of God, and if it is against the Word of God then we are to reject it....

now,

the only way that we will know if it lines up with the Word of God is if we are ground in the Word of God..... we have to know the Word of God in our hearts, not just in our little pea pickin brains, but in our hearts, and to know it in our hearts we have to have the Spirit of the Lord in our hearts.....

many people hear something that sounds good and they jump on it and try to follow it with out checking it out with the Word of God.... they take another mans word for it rather then verify it for them selves.....

if we go to studying other sects, or studying cults, then we will confuse our hearts and will be more confused as to what is really the Word of God.

I have no need to study another group that is not of God, to know they are not of God.....

that is not judging the person, but the gosple they are trying to spread.

as for a sad thread, maybe it is, but this is a sad world we live in. should we really have to have a thread as this? no, but then the world should not be where it is to day either.....

when man worships man over God, and allows one man to have complete authority over their lives, when people look to common spirits for answers, when people look to the stars for answers, when people look to anyone other then God for their answers, then it is a sad world.

Following is a list of organizations considered to be the major cults and sects in North America:

Unitarian Universalist Association

mike

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't see how the Unitarrians and Universalists fit into this list since they don't match many of your categories. They don't have a Charesmatic founder or leader , they don't deny the validity of other faith groups. They seek a critical appraisal of scriptural texts but don't seek to preach a party reading or enhance them with their own texts. Furthermore something that you don't mention but is one thing common to cults - they don't use psycologial presssure to recruit new members and manipulate existing members.

You almost certainly see this group as being heretical, but presumably you would say the same of those in other Christian denominations who hold equally radical views(many methodists, Presbyterians, Anglicans Lutheransand dissident Catholics for a start). As aQuaker, I would guess that my own denomination is probably at least as if not more heretical in your eyes as the Unitarians, yet we are as far from being a domineering mind controlling cult as it is possible to get

Unitarians, Jesus was just another prophet.

univeralism, believe that we all go to heaven and that satan does not get even one soul, and if this was the case then we would not need to have Jesus as our Savior, cause satan would not get any anyways.

as was mentioned in an earlier post, Cults are different then Sects, some of those on the list fall under sects others fall under cults.

if you want to check on the Quaker church, take the doctrine and line it up with the Bible.

do Quakers believe in Jesus, being the true Son of God, come to earth as a man, Crusified, and reserrected?

do they believe in Heaven and hell?

do they believe that the only way to the Father is thru the Son?

do they believe that everyone is born into sin, and has to accept the Free gift from God of forgiveness?

do they believe that salvation is a gift of grace, not of works?

or do they ( as some do ) place a man as the ultimate authority?

do they believe in the Trinity?

do they believe in Baptism as an outward sign of an inward condition?

this and other questions I do not know.

if a person was to tell me that Christ was a prophet, i would judge it and say that it was not of God.... for that does not line up with Gods Word, Christ was not a prophet, but the Son of God.

i do not know all the details of each and every sect or cult. that is not what we are to do, but to have the Word of God hidden in our hearts, and used in our daily lives, that people can tell by the fruit we bare that we have Christ in us as we are in Christ..... the Word of God being burried in our hearts will also allow us to know if some one is telling us the truth, or twisting it...

having Christ in us, we will also be given discernment about things around us.

I am not saying that there isnt those with main line names that are not teaching falsely, i know of one group calling themselves baptist that are so far off the line as far as the Bible goes, that it is very deceptive to some one that does not know the Word of God might fall prey to them. they even advertise that if a person (mainly a child) accepts Christ and phones them with their decission they will provide them with a PS2 (PlayStation 2) free of charge, but......yea, there is the but....... they have to say that they hate their parents, and then they ask for a creditcard number and such or they ask for a check with the routing codes on it, and they will take a set amount of money from it. and then if the parents ask where the PS2 came from they tell the kid to tell them that Jesus provided it....

their "church store" sells, umm lets say things that I do not believe my wife would ever wear, and if she even owned some of that stuff, she surly would not brag about it. what they have is a cult under the name of Baptist. galse teachings, obvious twisting of the Word of God. but those that do not know the Word of God can be fooled or deceived into believing them, and falling into the pits of hell with them.

this is not what the Baptist churches teach, this is not what the Bible teaches, this is one group that have taken the name of baptist.... again those that do not know, could be drawn in and made to believe that this is what all baptist believe. and that aint true.

this was just one example... there are many others out there doing the same sort of things...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
