Good postings, on both sides of the issue. I have enjoyed reading what everyone has to say. I wanted to follow up on the "predestintaion by forknowledge" issue that I saw raised a little before. This is often used by those who hold to the supremacy of free will in salvation to show that although God does predestine His children to salvation it is based on His ability to know ahead of time what each individual will choose. I don't see this at all in the scriptures, in fact, the idea of foreknowing lends itself more readily to the predestination side of the camp than anything else. Before I dig into the scriptures to back this statement up let me first say that predestination based on foreknowledge as the "free willers" understand it is no predestination at all. God is made to be reactionary. I cannot help but find that idea vulgar.

But consider what is meant by God "knowing" His children before hand. There are three possible interpretations for this. The first we have already seen defined by those that cling to free will: that it is God knowing what each person will do before they do it. The second, and equally incorrect view, is that God does not know everything, that He knows His own, but that those who are not His are outside of His spectrum of knowledge. Few hold this idea, and thank God for that. The third interpretation, which I believe is true to the scripture is this: God's foreknowledge of His children goes far beyond an "awareness" of us to the establishing of an intimate relationship.

In Mattew 7:23 we read what will be said to those in the final judgment who are not God's: I never KNEW you: depart from me...

We cannot assume that God was unaware of these individuals or the "choice" they would make. He is God and He says:

Isaiah 46:9-10

Remeber the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

DECLARING THE END FROM THE BEGINNING, AND FROM ANCIENT TIMES THE THINGS THAT ARE NOT YET DONE, saying My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

God most surely knew these people in the general sense of the word, but He had no intimate relationship with them. Why do I believe "know" "knew" and "foreknew" imply relationship? The Jewish use of the words has been an idiom for the sexual and intimate relationship between a man and wife since Moses' time.

Matthew 1:24-25

The Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

And KNEW her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.

Gen 4:1, 17

And Adam KNEW Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain...

And Cain KNEW his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch...

If God knows everything then how could the following statements be true unless by "knew" and "known" He means an intimate relationship?

Amos 3:2 You only have I KNOWN of all the families of the earth...(said to Israel)

Jeremiah 1:4-5a

The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Before I formed thee in the belly I KNEW thee...

It is by understanding this that Romans 8:29-30 must be understood for it is by this understanding that it becomes the beautiful statement of God's ultimate grace to His children.

Romans 8:29-30

For whom He did FOREKNOW (ie. intiate a personal relationship with), He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified.

I am nowhere in that process that my salvation might be ALL of God and NONE of myself.

In Christ,

Eric

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
