Animal lovers:  This might be an idea one of your TV news stations might do in order to help reduce the numbers of cats, dogs and other animals at the city shelters.

Here in L.A., our channel 4 news does a regular "clear the shelters" event.   We just had one on August 18.   All of the pets' adoption fees are reduced to $20 and the news reporters keep encouraging people to adopt.  They also go to various city animal shelters and videotape the animals and their new families.

Channel 4 has been doing this since 2015 and over 231,000 pets have been adopted!

Hi, That  is done here too.

One can wait for the bargain just like waiting  for the seasonal white sale for bedding, Black Friday to kick off Christimas retail, and internet sale day, or no sales tax back to school. Pretty soon people learn not to buy, instead wait for the sales periods.

And so; do the pounds get overloaded because people will wait  until prices drop?

I suspect most people are not good candidates for being pet owners nowadays. People are way too busy, few can walk their animals, and ya cannot just let them wander loose like in the old days.

The old days:

The "family car" would stop at the top of the hill at the edge of town, the door would open and the dog, Brownie, would spring out shooting over the low stone wall through the meadow and disappear into to woods at full run. The car door would close and off it would race to home and at home there would be Brownie on the porch tail wagging. He loved the run. Can't do that anymore.

Oh, we never could get rid of that dog.

Reduced or free adoptions of pets are a receipe for more homeless pets to end back up in an animal shelter.

They need to make required classes on animal care mandatory before someone can go picking up a pooch for little Johnny.

Hi, "it takes a village" to raise a dog or cat?

BTW- The dog that would race the family car home was, and is, my favorite animal pet. I would love to find another, but time is running out. That breed may not exist anymore. Brownie was a Redbone Foxhound, kennel borne at New Hampshire. Not a coonhound . There seems to be no record of the breed.

Markings were a cocoa brown coat with distinct light eye  eyebrow dots, short haired medium tail fluff, no ridge neck markings no tufted areas, about 40 lbs,  a smooth coat with those contrasting eyebrows, smart, loyal, and a fierce fighter  when threatened or the family is threatened, willing to take on a pack of dogs.

I live in the LA area also and many here need to be edookated somehow someway. I'm tired of seeing roadkill of Bobo and Kitty.

No one should have to live in the LA area dogs or otherwise. I know some here do, I did at one time too, at that just lovely San Pedro, where I had a high probability of being some form of kill myself.

At San Pedro they weren't satisfied with just killing, once they got you they would also then blow up your burial site.

Good thing dogs don't fly, what with all those electricity generating windmills going up.

Sorry it was just a visual that popped into my head. I too feel sad when I see someone's pet  hurt or having been  killed. There is just so much activity today that has never existed in the past. It is harder on all critters big and small.

Well, there are alot of animal lovers here in Los Angeles.   Alot of pets are taken care of better than me!   I do think the shelters do some sort of check on people before adopting an animal to them.   A friend who does rescue work does a thorough check on people, even checking their veterinarians to make sure the pet is cared for.

I have another friend who took her dog to hotels with her husband and daughter regularly, had the dog's grooming and teeth done, medical care given regularly....yet she was declined for a few dogs at rescue groups or shelters for some odd reason.  Their dog had died after they spent alot of money on his treatment and they wanted another dog.   So they had to buy a dog from a lady whose dog had puppies.    But they really wanted a rescued dog....

oh ouch

while I can agree with the sentiment, I ask if they cannot pay the standard fee for adoption..which is really already pretty low...can they pay for the upkeep, vet visits, food etc for the animal they adopt?

believe me my heart is with you as far as shelter animals go but the problem still seems to be reproduction and increasing numbers of entire litters of puppies in shelters.....I follow several rescue groups on fb so this is a fair statement

I happen to have 2 of the breeds most often found in shelters and it is heartbreaking if you love animals...I do and dogs in particular

I agree with adopt don't shop as a good motto...but I do have 2 rescued and 2 bought.

it's an awful problem...and I've read that perfectly fine animals are put down to make room for more 'strays' or left off unwanted pets

I guess I'm not really solving any problems here...I think it would be fair to say this is somewhat of a multifaceted problem and begins possibly with not enough consequences for mistreatment, abandoning cats or dogs and so on

We've gone through dog rescues, and yes they can be quite intrusive checking out the details of your life whereas the Shelter mainly required $$ and an application. But whatever they are doing to check, there are a lot of loose dogs in the L.A. area, teeth brushing and doggy diapers withstanding. I just don't think a course in basic pet care would hurt.

Yes, a course would be good.

I guess it depends on the area of L.A. you are in.    I don't see any loose dogs running around.   This neighborhood got all built up and fancy now due to the Korean businesses.   They can afford the fancy apartments so we have those now, too.   I see lots of wealthy Koreans walking little fancy dogs now.   I do see others walking their dogs, too.

I can remember when no apartments or maybe very, very few would allow dogs.   I never saw a dog in my neighborhood or in downtown until recent years.   I always enjoy seeing them.   We also have alot of dogs in our 74 unit apartment building, fun to see them.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
