I saw this on Facebook and thought we could do it here.....

Why don't we, together, read one chapter of the book of Luke each night starting with chapter one tonight [or read in the mornings/afternoons - whenever you choose].

We would finish Christmas Eve and wake up Christmas morning with a present and deeper understanding of Who it is that December 25th is for. {I know, I know that's not his real birthday, but it's when we acknowledge it]

How about it - we can discuss it or not.

TODAY - DECEMBER 1 - Luke 1

Just a few worthy nuggets about Luke

Luke, the author of this Gospel and a physician, also authored the book of "Acts."

The word "Luke" means "light giver".

The book of Luke was probably written in the 70's A.D.

Hi Jayne,

Great idea. I`m in, though I`ll have to catch up a few chapters. Yes, let`s focus on the Lord and appreciate more, His coming to this sin-stricken earth to redeem us.

Marilyn.

Luke 2:19: But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

...

Imagine the indescribable JOY that was in Mary's heart!

Selah:emot-heartbeat:

and yet a sword pierced her heart .    BUT that HAD TO BE .   so that mary and all who believe in Christ would be forgiven of trespasses .

I think we should have communions to both remember and HONOR OUR LORD who was crucified for us .     Me and a friend did one just the other day .

WHAT a beauty .     OH man what a wonderful wonderful reminder that also reminds us ,   YA only saved by grace and CHRIST paid that price .

MAKES a lame man run like a cheetah and jump with joy like a gazelle .     THE MORE we rememeber and are reminded of what JESUS DID FOR US ,

KEEPS that heart VERY GREATFUL and always ready to encourage others too .   POINTING TO CHRIST .    YOU loved dear sister .

Luke 2. The beloved chapter! Every year when I was growing up the family would gather round and read this together. This put Christ at the rightful place :) at the center of our celebration.

Another tradition I recall warmly is watching the Classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The best part of it is where Charlie experiences disillusionment with the commercialism of the day. He cries out, "Doesn't ANYBODY know what Christmas is all about??"

This is when Linus steps up to the plate and recites Luke 2:8-14. It's a heartwarming and poignant moment that puts things right. It refocuses the TRUE meaning. :8: Sweet. (Even uses the KJV. The year being 1965. :))

In Luke 4: 1-12 I see what strikes me as a sort of 'spiritual tennis match' with scriptures going back and forth between Jesus and Satan. I heard that Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy more than from any other part of scripture... This was the case with all three rebuttals to the devil (Deuteronomy 8:3, 6:13 and 6:16.)

One of my favorite scriptures is Hebrews 4:15.

"For we don't have a high priest who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin."

Another translation puts it,"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses. Instead, we have one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet he never sinned."

So we know He needed to be tempted in ALL areas we are (in order to relate to us.) I was looking at the temptations that Satan threw at Christ. There is a categorical pattern there (no coincidences with God :)) that matches up to the three areas he attacks humans in. These are listed in 1 John 2:16 “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Lust of the flesh

First Temptation

In Luke 4: 3 "And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread."

In verse 4, "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." (from Deuteronomy 8:3)

Lust of the eyes  and  Pride of life

 Second Temptation

In Luke 4:5-7, "And the devil, taking him up into a high mountain, showed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore will worship me, all shall be thine."

In verse 8, "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve." (from Deuteronomy 6:13)

Third Temptation

Satan's final try...

In Luke 4: 9-11 "And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone."

In Luke 4: 12 "And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." (from Deuteronomy 6:16)

This final temptation was Satan's attempt to redirect Jesus away from the agony of the cross by talking Him into taking a shortcut. Using the allure of the angels protecting him & the rationalization/logic that being God, Jesus had that right...

Praise God, :emot-heartbeat:Jesus told the devil there was no way. He'd never give up the mission the Father had sent Him on for our salvation. :)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
