Searching passage, similar to what Paul says in Philippians, the Epistle of Joy, as it's sometimes thought of.

I was also thinking of Isaiah 48.10: "I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction".

Hard to see that in context.

Isaiah 48:8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb. 9 For my name's sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. 10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another. 12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

I am under the impression that while I am seeing myself suffering while ceasing from sin, I have joy because I know the Lord is the One enabling me to do this.

That is a whole lot different than what I am reading in context for Isaiah 48:10.  Granted, they will have joy afterwards, but punishment for not departing from transgressions against God?  This last verse below would confirm my belief.

Hebrews 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Those unrepentant saints & former believers who get left behind will be scourged and whipped for not being ready as found abiding in him by His grace & by His help, but they will have joy afterwards as the prodigal son may have given up his first inheritance on wild living and can never get it back, but he will find he is still son.

But I cannot fathom the whipping and the stripes one receives when left behind for why every saved believer should be called to go to Jesus Christ and hope in Him to reveal any iniquity on that foundation to help them remove those iniquities from them so He does not have to by leaving them behind when the Bridegroom comes.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
