The Apostle Paul said he became all things to all people that he might win some. He did not mean he compromised the gospel. He just meant that he found common ground where he could talk to people in a way they would understand what he was talking about. So, I believe we can be both contemporary in our approach and true to the gospel and  holy living in our teaching and in our walk with Christ. This is what we do at our church and it works. It is all in priorities and in letting Christ lead us rather than us lead. It is being sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. He will never fail us.

I guess it's all about getting your priopities in order. If you had the choice of two hours of worshipping the Lord at a meeting, or two hours listening to your favourite band , which happened at the same time, which would you choose?

c'mon, now, be honest.

Go to the meeting, but listen to my favorite band's CD on the way to it :o

I'm not a huge concert-goer, though, so

Eric, my dear beloved brother, can a person not do both at the same time? There is certainly a time and a place for quiet worship but sometimes music can draw us closer to God!

I begin my day every morning with an hour to two hours with the Lord in prayer, in study in his word, in worship, in praise and thanksgiving, in making petitions and requests and in thanking him for answers to prayers. I also journal what he shows me through his word and through prayer. Sometimes I do this in the middle of the night and sometimes I add even more in the evenings or the afternoon, but I maintain an attitude of prayer all day long. He is on my mind when I wake in the morning and he is on my mind when I go to bed at night. My purpose in life is to obey his voice and to do what he has called me to do and say what he wants me to say. I even did this when I had a full-time job outside the home. Now I just work for the Lord full-time in ministering wherever he wants to whomever he wants. I know that not everyone can do that. But, it is possible to maintain the kind of relationship I mentioned with the Lord even when you work full-time and have children. We will always find a way to do what we want to do. It is all a matter of priorities. And, yes, I would definitely prefer two hours of worship any day - hands down!!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

God uses music much in my life. Lately the Lord has been using the words of contemporary Christian songs to speak to me, to encourage, to counsel, to lead and guide, etc. I have printed off the words to the songs and have placed them in a notebook and I frequently pull them out just to read the words. I play CD's in my car and at home sometimes. I like quiet, so I don't have music on that much. But, the Lord always has some song going through my head. That is partly how he speaks to me. Right now these words are going through my head: "I am strong when I am on your shoulders..." The Lord has been giving me many songs lately about being on his shoulders and him carrying me and me soaring on wings, etc. It is very encouraging to know that when I am weak, he is strong and he will carry me. I sense him carrying me through many of the circumstances of my life.

Beware of churches with stages for the worship band. Why elevate the band over the worshippers. Kinda says yer there to worship the band doesn't it? It's an audience of one and He can see your heart wiithout the stage. I had a hard time separating my proffesional musical self from my worship musical self and wound up leaving the worship team. The stage didn't help.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Sorry, Gerioke. I have to disagree with you on this. Otherwise, the Pastor's pulpit shouldn't be up on "a stage" either else we get the message that we are to worship him.

I don't think the elevated location of the band implies that you are to worship them at all.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
