Which is the best version to read?

I have read that words and meanings get changed or the context becomes different, so which version is the best to read?

At the moment i have an NIV but would another version be better?

I have used the NIV, for many, many years....until I went to a Summer Camp in 2004.

It was hosted by Scrict Baptists, and they always use the KJV. (King James Version) .

It was my first, real encounter with this type of Bible.

For six moths, I battled with which Bible to use. I liked the KJV, but really, for everyday use....I didn't think I could use it.

It was too difficult for me.

After a while, I came across the NKJ. (New King James) It was exactly the same as the Original KJV, but in simpler form, and everyday language was used.

I still battled, but I decided to try it.

I loved it, and I really enjoyed it.

I think the KJV, and the NKJV are the most accurate.....I mean.....the writers spent many years over them, translating them from the Hebrew texts, and manuscripts.

The NIV.....I have seen a lot of mistakes made.....

I don't say this with ignorance......I have been exposed to many, many different Versions, and read and used all of them.

NKJV

GNB (Good News Bible)

TLB (the Living Bible)

NCV (New Century Version)

NIV (of course)

YB (Youth Bible)

................and lots of others.

Some have HUGE mistakes.......some have little mistakes, and I think the NKJV is the most accurate. that's my opinion.

I read the NIV but have read about the discrepancies in it, and i want something that hasn't been changed too much out of original context.

I used to have a KJV, not sure if i still have it or not.

My favroite is the New King James Version. Easy to understand and very close to the orginal King James.

I've read 8 or 9 different versions all the way through, and after studying Hebrew and Greek (Hebrew was easy, Greek was a nightmare!!!), I just keep going back to the KJV. NKJV professes to contain all the words of KJV, but actually 'Lord' out of Lord Jesus Christ many, many times, where KJV has 'Lord Jesus Christ'. Others have pointed out other places where NKJV does not live up to its literal promises. Still it seems like the best modern language version I've looked at.

For Jewish flavor, The Complete Jerusalem Bible.

For the stories, The Living Bible.

For variation, NIV

For comparison, RSV

For casual reading, which ever one is handy at the time.

IMO, the best versions today are the KJV, NKJV, and NASB. The NLT is highly regarded as an accurate Bible that is very simple to read, but I feel that it is TOO simple and it really dumbs down the Word.

It really looks like the consensus here is the KJV, I think I'll get mine out and do alittle investigating. I've been readying the NIV for years now and really enjoyed it, but all of you have me wondering????

The majesty and beauty of the KJV is timeless. No wonder we are still reading it 400 years later.
