This article discusses video game violence. Nothing graphic is shown but just a heads up.

I'm training to be a clinical psychologist so my husband sometimes shares articles like this with me. He saw this today and since he is a gamer he wanted my opinion.

I don't believe in censorship but it is a scientifically proven fact that excessive exposure to violence or sexually explicit material can have traumatic effects on people.  In my view if a game is so violent it is giving grown adults nightmares and PTSD, it does not need to exist. I hope these programmers find a healthier job environment.

It does sound like it's pretty extreme. Scripturally speaking there are numerous verses that tell us the importance of being mindful of what goes on in our thoughts and to bring it into submission to Christ. Part of that process is being mindful of what we expose ourselves to. It's the nature of the flesh to push on the boundaries of what's considered acceptable and decent so things like this are bound to become more common over time.

I have seen very little in these forums about the need to avoid violence, but this topic needs to be addressed.  Although those who play violent computer games are not harming real people, one wonders what this choice of entertainment indicates about what may be happening to their hearts? (Matthew 5:21, 22; Luke 6:45) Video gamers enjoy stabbing, shooting, maiming, and killing people, albeit imaginary people. It could be certainly argued that at the very least, violent video games foster a love of violence, just as a person who watches pornography cultivates immoral desires.—Matthew 5:27-29.

The Lord said to Noah: “The end of all flesh has come before me, because the earth is full of violence as a result of them; and here I am bringing them to ruin together with the earth.” (Genesis 6:13) The true God destroyed an entire world of mankind because of their violent ways. He preserved only Noah and his family—eight individuals who did not love violence.—2 Peter 2:5.

People who want to be God's friends “beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears.” Instead of learning to love violence, they do not “learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4) To remain God’s friend rather than become his enemy, we must “turn away from what is bad and do what is good.” We need to “seek peace and pursue it.”—1 Peter 3:11.

I can understand that extreme, graphic violence affecting them, even to the point of PTSD.   Pretty horrendous stuff in the article.

Once in a while, I watch an episode of Dr. Phil to keep informed.   He had a mother and her 12 year old son on.   The boy was totally addicted to violent video games.....he would play straight through for nearly all day.

He would constantly scream at his mother, calling her foul names.   He would scream at her to bring him a sandwich into his room, calling her a peasant!   He would use her Pay Pal account to order hundreds of dollars of gaming stuff (with her permission).

One time he locked her out of the home in the cold and rain.... demanding that she take him to Starbucks!   Then he would let her into the house!  She took him to Starbucks.   He was an out of control child.   He was also on about 20 medications.

Anyhow, basically Dr. Phil asked her who was the parent?    He said she shouldn't allow him to keep ordering all the gaming stuff, too.

Finally he told the mother and the boy if he didn't stop treating his mother like dirt, that the mother should take a hammer to all of his video controls!   (Dr. Phil had the controls and hammer ready.)   That was the only thing that got through to the boy, his manner finally changed.   He didn't want his stuff destroyed and was willing to treat mom better.

Since the boy was so addicted, Dr. Phil also was going to send the boy for counseling.   And he felt the boy was on too many medications so doctors would help get him off of those pills.

Really, this makes absolute perfect sense... Twisted as it is.

There's far to much in monetary gains to take advantage of... So it's not likely.

PTSD is a stress disorder that is triggered by a terrifying event.

A fact in clinical terms.

In this instance the game creators were made to look at endless photographs of real violence and crime scenes. One of the artists said he saw so much real life violence that he started seeing his dog and people as if their skin was transparent, (organs all exposed). Many of them reported nightmares.

Several have already quit to work elsewhere.

That makes absolute perfect sense as well.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
