Pointing the Finger

We are not expressly told but, has anyone ever given any thought to the following seven verses? Again we're not told how many "they" are, but I doubt there was a multitude. This is how I picture what Jesus did and what He wrote on the ground with his finger in the dirt. Jesus walked up to the first and eldest; and where he was standing wrote in front of him in the dirt "Murderer". Next in front of the next eldest wrote with His finger in the dirt in front of him "False Witness". Then the third "Coveted", and so forth on down the line; and it shocked and stunned them wondering how He knew? Then Jesus said, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." Knowing what Jesus had just wrote in front of each and everyone of them was current and true; their conscience was convicted and they departed according to their ages. What a sight that must have been, and more importantly the lesson we need to learn from it. 

John 8:4 (KJV) They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6. This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

Have no idea what was written, but it evidently gave them conviction.

I have the spirit remind me, there go I, just a different page, and remember,

We can only speculate what Jesus wrote, but i think He highlighted the importance of being quick to pass judgment on sinners who are caught sinning. It is God's role to judge not ours.

Having conviently let the man escape, the woman is hauled before Jesus. Quite likely in order to provide more of a thrill in a state of undress.

Jesus payes no attention to the sensational claim but give the woman the chance to make herself presentable.

What does he write? We don't know, but having given his judgemrnt he continues to write.

That point shatters the idea that Jesus wrote damming verdicts before the elders.

Characters drawn in dust or sand are not very clear, so by writting in the dirt Jesus was giving people time to think and to think about what he had said.

This was not a regular court, and as such was illegal, it takes 'two to tango' so with only the women they didn't have all parties, where were the witnesses. All they claimed was she had been caught, no one said I saw, I witnessesed.

So 'Let him who is without sin' is doubly challenging for status conscious, law abiding leaders.
